UK rolled over 1-AA Texas St. and now Swiss Miss is up next. It'll be a good battle of the SEC's worst (throw Vandy and Miss. St. into that mix).

Not to offend, but I think Vandy's a little better than those three. They fought with Michigan last week and nearly beat Bama today. Chris Nickson looks pretty solid, I think he's gonna be good.

They'll be in that 3-5 win territory like UK, Ole Miss., and Miss St.

3-5 is the ceiling for UK, Ole Miss, and Miss St., though. Vandy is more likely to hit 4-5 and, with a couple realisitic upsets, could reach 6 and a bowl.

UK with their schedule has a good chance to get more wins than Vandy.

UK's easiest games

Texas State

Ole Miss

Central Michigan

UL-Monroe

Vandy

Miss St.

Vandy's easiest games

Arkansas

Tennessee St

Temple

Ole Miss

Duke

UK

Both I-AA games should be wins, Temple a pushover and Duke lost to Richmond. UK has only a couple sure wins in there (and one of those were today). I do base a lot of my opinion on the fact that Kentucky has had no real QB thus far, didn't see the game today but neither Woodson nor Pulley really stand out. If one steps up, I like UK a lot more. Likewise with Vandy, if Nickson isn't as good as he's looked, I'll think less of Vandy.

Well, that sucked

I'm going to the Bend for next week's Michigan game. Knowing Michigan's performances in ND Stadium, the Irish could well stomp them too.

Wow, that was an embarassing game for UCLA. Four turnovers, only beat Rice 26-16. Complete opposite of last wee - Ben Olson was awful, awful, awful but the rushing game was spectacular this time around. Chris Markey had a career high in rushing yards (over 200) and Kahlil Bell topped 100 yards rushing too.

The defense continues to impress (outside of one play on the speed option) - including a stand at the 5 yard line after a muffed punt.

Alright, maybe I'm a tad pissed because Penn State just got their teeth kicked in, but....

I lost some respect for Charlie Weis today. I haven't seen more blatant "running up the score" play calling in the second half in years. Fake punt? Going for it on 4th down (more than once)? Continuing to call pass plays with Quinn? C'mon. I know, it's not his fault that the poll system seemingly rewards teams for blowouts (and, in his case this past week, penalizes them for close games), but it seemed in poor taste to me.

Am I crazy for seeing it this way? Did anyone else find the fakes and 4th down attempts to be unsportsmanlike?

Or a passing TD from the ND starting QB to the ND starting RB in the 4th quarter with a 31 point lead?

It's bush league and it's all about Weis' ego - especially the trick play late in the 3rd.

You want more blatant running up the score? Check out Pom Pom Pete.

Pretty good day for the MAC, with Ball State losing to a Big 10 team by only 1, Miami taking another Big 10 team (Purdue) to OT before losing, and Akron beating an ACC team (NC State).

I hope it's a better week next week after the Cards go to Purdue. If Miami OH can take them to OT then we can beat them.

No real Knipp reports tonight, TT, he played significant time though.

Do we want to discuss all of these, or single out Notre Dame as "classless?" We were not up as much as these teams and played a much higher caliber of opponent. Did all of these teams run up the score and therefore are all of these programs classless? Opinions please, especially from the anti-ND crowd.

A FAKE PUNT

And thanks for the update ndistops.

Here is a quote from the Indianapolis Star today about why the fake punt was done.

Weis, sensing that perhaps the momentum could be switching as the Irish tried to use up some clock in the second half, called for the fake.

It definitely sounds like he was still worried about the outcome of the game.

[expletive] sucking at the half against UGA, 15-0.

I'm glad you said it cause there's no way I coulda let that slide.

Depending on how one interpreted that statement, it could either mean one team is doing bad or else it's the best in stadium promotion ever invented.

With 6 1/2 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter? Definitely. Notre Dame can look to their team last year for proof of that. One, the defense has looked good so far, but not enough to still wonder if they could play like last year when they gave up long passing plays at will. Also, last year against Michigan State, Mich State scored a TD to go up by 21 on ND with 5 minutes to play in the 3rd quarter-and they then kicked off to ND, just as ND would have punted to Penn State. ND took that game into overtime, and could have easily won it in regulation. 24 point leads in the 3rd quarter are not automatically safe, especially with a team like Penn State who has big-play receivers that could burn you for a 70 yard TD very quickly.

Giving the score along with explaining the promotion...

just as saying free beer at the half, score 14-0.

Well, as you all noticed, BSU blows 17-0 and 23-7 leads and loses 24-23 to IU. Hoke elected to punt with about 4 minutes left, 4th and 9 from about our own 45, which I disagreed with since no score can put the game out of reach apart from a TD and 2 pointer. Then, on 4th and 1 with 1:50 left and no timeouts, IU comes out and just tries to draw us offsides, and for the first time that I have ever seen, it works. We jump, and they run out the clock. Heartbreaking. (We also missed a PAT and a FG in the game.)

And kudos to all the Hoosiers fans that talked crap to us after the game. You had to come back from down 17 to beat a MAC team by one. Nice work.

Edit: I guess it should be noted that Blake Powers got hurt, didn't play, and then Graeme McFarland was pulled after two three-and-outs, and we got schooled by 3rd-stringer Kellen Lewis, who is a very poor man's Vince Young.

YEAH BABY! What a win by the Hoosiers on the road. I know it's just a MAC team, but if IU was in the MAC they'd be a 4th place team at best. KLew took them to school!

Congrats to all the Mizzou fans out there. That was a beat down. Now I get to watch the 'Aints lose today.

Gotta say the Ole Miss fans up here in Columbia were very friendly and classy. Represented your school well. Only thing I was disappointed by was I didn't see a lot of those famed coeds where I was tailgating.

Time for the 'Dawgs to go in your house next week and make it two weeks in a row that a Big 10 team loses to a I-AA team

NIU lost to Ohio...Horvath was garbage again. His record as a starter with NIU: 7-8. Why Dan Nicholson (who won 3 straight games last year to get us into the MAC Title game) isn't starting is beyond me. Novak's obsession with veterans starting is probably going to screw NIU out of yet another MAC Championship this season.

I'm shocked Nicholson hasn't been starting from the get go. He impressed last year in his run as starter and Horvath as you said has been garbage. Plus, most importantly Nicholson went to my high school and I've hung out with him. So there's that.

Thanks for the compliments. As far as the coeds go, they don't make the away games. Next year when you play here you'll just have to come down and see for yourself.

I'm not a ND fan, and I'll say I have no problem with them trying to score as much as possible. During the LSU game, I got pissed when Arizona got the field goal on 2nd and 3rd teamers on defense. When they got on LSU's side of the fifty I was screaming for Miles to put the first team defense back in.

My only issue is that I don't think ND has any entitlement to the second spot in the polls. I won't be upset if they get that spot, but it could just as easily belong to a handful of teams.

Dude, ND plays the hardest schedule in the nation. Plus god loves them. they deserve to be #2.
