I think the only chance of Michigan playing OSU in the Championship game is if the final score in there game was something like 24-23 OSU winning but Michigan playing better. If Michigan beats OSU in Columbus OSU has no shot at the Championship game.

If Texas runs the table that will boost OSU's strength of schedule and the computer will like that.

SOS is not used anymore in the BCS formula.

Aren't the SOS's part of the computers rankings?

Yes, that's why they stopped using it in the BCS, so it wouldn't be double-counted.

And it is interesting to note that this year, Sagarin has ND SOS as #1. I am sure that will change in the next few weeks though.

Not remotely surprising considering every ND opponent so far is either unbeaten or has their only loss against the Irish. But like you said, that's likely to start plummeting starting with Stanford week and continuing into mid-November. ND probably won't have a top-30 schedule this season to be honest.

Charlie Weis is in studio with Mike and the Mad Dog right now, going over this week's games. He's like the anti-Belichek with all his media time. Guess you have to with recruiting.

Whoa, good timing, he's talking about Smardoiuoewihtklnaza right now. Thinks he's a faster Ed Mcaffery, and that's not because he's tall and white.

Weis is also on ESPNEWS at 5:50. He's promoting his new book. He said in his press conference on Tuesday that he didn't want to write a book, but heard from his agent how much money he could raise for Hannah & Friends (a foundation he set up to create a community for developmentally disabled children and adults, inspired by his daughter who has such a disorder), and his wife and son talked him into it.

This is a flame post waiting to happen, but:

versus like opponents (Penn State and Michigan State)

Brady Quinn

Passing: 45/73, 606 yds, .616 completion percentage, 8 TD, 1 INT

Rushing: 14 carries, 4 yards, 0 TD

Troy Smith

Passing: 27/44, 349 yds, .613 completion percentage, 2 TD, 2 INT

Rushing: 11 carries, 28 yards, 0 TD

(I still think Smith is and should be the Heisman favorite)

Michigan State, Eh. The game was over early for Troy and Quinn need to throw to get them back in that game. Its the Penn State game where he stands out more. After watching the UM/PSU game saturday night Quinns game against PSU is even more impressive. Thats more a defining moment for him.

I think Troy Smith winning the Heisman is going to be tied into Ohio St going undefeated. There isnt a dominating candidate out there so they are going to reward Smith with a lifetime acheivement award if OSU goes undefeated. If Michigan beats OSU I think Henne/Hart or Manningham may get into the picture but Quinn will probably win as long as he keeps on putting up good #s. With Peterson and Wolfe probably out of the running this may turn into one of the most interesting Heisman votes ever. I have a feeling Bristol University is going to start promoting someone else here in the next couple of weeks. Probably Rutgers rb(Rice) or WVU qb or running back.

So Vandy officially gets added to the list of SEC teams that would destroy ND right?

No, Georgia gets removed from any list of teams that would destroy ND. And for the record, I never had Georgia on that list.

I haven't heard this before, just read on ESPN about ND's '08 schedule, and how in addition to going to only 4 road games, they will have 1 off-site "home game" per year, mentioning Florida, Texas, and New Orleans as possibilities. Seems like a pretty smart recruiting idea.

Purdue or Penn St. will likely be the 2nd. And Air Force has a decent shot at being the 3rd.

Don't forget Navy, and USC if the Irish can beat them.

They are also doing it for alumni. Their schedule is going to be super easy for the next few years. White decided that in order to compete they had to have a schedule filled with a bunch of weak teams.

And I'm not sure I like that. Hell, just last year they were 6 points away from an undefeated season, and they at least tried to put together a strong schedule. The upcoming games with SDSU and Nevada are just going to rally the haters to say "Look at this, they whine every year about our soft opening games, look at who they are playing to open up".

Isn't one of those two games not entirely ND's choice? I seem to remember that one of those two schools required us to schedule them 1 time in order for ND to rearrange the schedule. It was the year where ND was scheduled to open with Michigan. At the last minute, ND decided to try to move the BYU game in front of Michigan to give them a warmup game, but one of Nevada or SDSU was in the way-and in order for ND to make the scheduling change, they had to schedule that school for a game. Of course, they lost that BYU game. Does anybody remember which school that was?

Both of the games actually were forced on ND via that arrangement, but that won't matter to anyone.

“We need to schedule in a way it puts us in a position to win national championships,” he said. “We could have a great football team and schedule ourselves out of a championship. You can schedule yourself in, you can schedule yourself out. The last time I checked, the most important thing here is to try to win national championships.”

I really don't like them doing this. And it really makes what Holtz did look that much more impressive.
