This whining is classic. If PSU would have rolled on Notre Dame, 90% of this forum would have celebrated Paterno laying it on the Irish. After Paterno's comments ripping Notre Dame for being independent and his obvious disdain for the Irish, I wish we would have let the score get to where it easily could have been---about 56-3.

I just can't wait to hear all this week that "Penn State just wasn't that good" and Weis "still has never beaten anyone good." The same will be said after we beat Michigan. 'Michigan and Penn State aren't what they used to be."

ND didn't beat any good teams last year and we don't know how good Penn State and Michigan will end up being this year. You can't give a team credit for winning a game early in the season against a highly ranked team if that team ends up having an average year that year. It's just like with Pittsburgh and Michigan last year. Those games looked like big victories and many people continued to mention that Notre Dame beat Michigan when they were ranked #3 in the nation and they beat a ranked Pittsburgh team. Neither of those teams ended up being very good last year so why should ND get credit for beating a good team when said team ends up being no more than an average team. If Penn State finishes the year 5-6, it's obvious that ND's victory over them wasn't actually that impressive.

I would argue that Notre Dame's victory over PSU is still pretty impressive even if they finish 5-6, just not as impressive. It doesn't get much more one-sided than 41-3.

So, how impressive is Auburn's win over Miss St or LSU's over Arizona? We don't know. What if Arizona finishes 4-7 and Penn State finishes 5-6? Which team's victory was more impressive?

That's why it's stupid to start clamoring about strenght of schedule after two goshdarn games!

That's the thing that bothers me a lot about polls. Teams that are not that good but are assumed to be good get killed by a decent team early and that decent team shoots up the polls and is very hard to knock off even though more deserving teams are behind them.

I hate garbage-time TDs...if they're scored against my teams :D

Well, I'd argue that the play was really not lopsided enough to warrant a 41-3 score. ND scored on pretty much all their chances and was bailed out by potential INTs that were dropped by Penn State - and Penn State botched one FG attempt and likely lost more points on a bogus clipping call.

What did JoePa say about the clipping?

I agree. So tell all the ND haters on this board who crack on the Irish schedule on a weekly basis to put a lid on it, because I don't like debating SOS, as it's not very germane to the situation right now
Considering ND has played the hardest schedule in the country - BY FAR - out of any top 25 team, being sarcastic about their schedule is going to fall on deaf ears. Find some other way to express your ND hatred, please.

So you don't like debating it, however will say with ABSOLUTE CERTAINTY BY FAR, about ND's SOS.

Consistent arguments plz.

In the other thread, he was responding to another post about schedule strength. I don't believe he brought it up. Not wanting to debate but defending your team isn't inconsistent.

For the record, if Georgia Tech isn't pulling a Michigan State where they play really well against ND but sucks against everyone else, I think they could well win the ACC this year. The conference isn't as strong as it usually is this year, and GT's defense is strong enough to carry them all the way there if they remember to "get...the....baw....to...number 21....Calvin....Johnson." (a little Davie for you there)

I never can stand how Michigan State does that to us. Many MSU players have had their career days against ND the last 10 years, and unless you see the ND-MSU game it just looks like ND lost to a 6 win team. Just like last year, when MSU started red hot including beating us, and then just absolutely collapsed.

Yeah, the ACC is bad this year. Still, I think Tech knows they should get the ball to Calvin Johnson - it's just a matter of whether the QB is good enough to do so.

By the way, Michigan State doesn't play well against ND and badly against everyone else. They play well the first half of the year and then completely collapse.

ND looked terrible today. The whole team was off, and couldn't get anything going at all. Hats of to Michigan for coming prepared.

That being said...

I am not that upset about this loss. I expected them to lose at least two this year, and to lose on early to a ranked opponent is the best possible scenario. If they can rebound against MSU and go through the weak part of their schedule with little trouble, it could set up for an interesting game against USC at the end of the year. I never had Championship aspirations, so this is probably the best way they could lose. Also maybe now Quinn & co. will realize that they are not as good as everyone makes them sound.

There's definitely some of that going around. Charlie has tried to stop it, but to no avail. Quinn's on TV out of uniform more than I ever remember Leinart.

Like you say, ND is not a championship contender, as was evidenced today by getting beat badly by a team that won't even win their conference (and might not even come in 2nd).

I feel sort of the same way. I was starting to hope that maybe we could get through September undefeated, but in the month leading up to the season I was telling everyone who asked me that the team was going to lose at least 1 game in September-I just couldn't pin down who it was going to be to. Michigan played hard, took advantage of ND's mistakes, and deserved to go home with the victory. Hopefully, this lesson will just make ND stronger as Weis continues to try to build his team.

like I said before, you ND fans here are very different from the ones I knew in college and much more objective. You couldn't even talk about football with those guys.

I had title aspirations.

I don't anymore.

But kudos go to Michigan, as I said in my post in the regular college thread. They just played a sterling football game and shouldn't have a problem finishing 2nd in the Big Ten. A potential matchup of unbeatens between OSU and Michigan is pretty enticing at the moment.

I think ND played really poorly today and Michigan played about as well as they could. I said last year after ND beat Michigan that I didnt think they were any better than Michigan, Now this year I am going to say the same thing the other way. I dont think Michigan is that much better than ND.

I dont want to debate this in a ND thread but I do believe Michigan and OSU will meet for the Big Ten championship. I truly believe that Michigan can beat them. So to say that ND lost to a team that wont win the Big Ten title may be a little premature. I will also say this Soul, who in the Big Ten besides OSU is better than Michigan?

Thats why I hate when everyone groups all ND fans into one big arrogant bunch. Most of us are not that way, but a few bad apples ruin it.

I am 26 yrs old. ND has not gone undefeated since I was 8. To lose a few games a year is nothing new to me. I grew up during Davie and Willingham. Losses are expected.

Might sound strange, but I actually can't stand ND students. Even when out in bars in South Bend I find them to be arrogant and annoying. Not just because of football, but because they think since they go to ND they are the upper echelon of society, and look down on us non-students. I think I have only met one or two that were decent, and I have known quite a few students there.

I was honestly surprised at how poorly Notre Dame played today. I thought there was a chance they could lose to Michigan but I still thought Notre Dame would win (as evidenced by my picking Notre Dame in the College Pick Em league). Kudos to Michigan.

I would have had them no higher than 20, but I'm not going to complain about being ranked 12 for obvious reasons.
