Brazil and the US each won their confederation tournaments, Copa America and the Gold Cup, respectively.

That's true, but wasn't the US in Copa America (albeit briefly, though I think they eventually did score A goal)?

Bah, I suppose it makes nominal sense, but I at least hope the US will field a competitive group, although I imagine attendance will be scarce with the game on the same day as Bears/Chargers.

We scored in our first Copa game early, Eddie Johnson vs Argentina.

I guarantee the game will sell out. Brazil travels exceptionally well no matter where they go. They will fill seats even if we don't.

USA v Mexico in the Azteca is off.

USA v Brazil...in Chicago...is ON. for September 9th.

I'd be all about seeing USA v Brazil in person but the 3 pm start puts it right in line with the Bears season opener. D'oh.

Yeah, I know. It's a real tough call.

If Kaka and Ronaldinho are playing, though, it'll make it much easier. You don't get too many chances to see great players like that.

Very true. I'm fine watching the Bears game off my DVR, too. But I just know someone will spoil the score before I can get home to watch it. Heck, they'll probably provide Bears updates on the big screen at Soldier's.

Yeah, I'd bet you couldn't get thru the game without hearing or seeing the score somewhere.

They don't just travel well, but it could become a full blown mini Carnaval. They will be tailgating to if you feel like your suffering any Bears withdrawls. If I lived anywhere around Chicago I would go in a heart beat. If the top players play then its a huge bonus.

This would be a nice game to break in Adu and Altidore :-).

Good news, it is a FIFA fixture date.

Good.

And with Euro 2008 qualifiers sheduled for both 09/08 and 09/12, there shouldn't be any trouble to field players based in Europe.

But that goes for both teams.

Sweet. I love my FSC investment already. :D

dude .. have you yet seen the show (i think it's "premier league fanzone") where "they" let the fans do the commentary? they replay a fixture from the weekend and instead of the normal play-by-players, they have 1 fan from each side call the action. and if that's not enough, other fans are encouraged to send in text messages which scroll at the bottom of the screen. i stumbled upon it last season and am glad i did so. absolutely hilarious, particularly when goals are scored or controversial calls are made.

Its awesome, especially if you can get a United vs City matchup, or anything with a lot of prior hate between them ;-).

Adu could make his Benfica debut today in the the Champions League Qualifier vs. Copenhagen. I don't think its a real option being with the club only 7 days, but its mentioned.

København knocked Ajax out in the 3rd qualifying round last year.

I can't see Benfica fielding Adu after just seven days with the team against such opposition

i love fanzone. i really wish some american sport would pioneer this idea on cable. its brillant and usually the guys are pretty funny.

if anyone remembers the spurs-west ham match late in the season last year , hammers were up 2-0, but ended up losing 4-3 with an extra time goal scored by spurs. it was a game that was shown live and then replayed as a fanzone game. when i watched it the first time with traditional announcers, i fought bad for the west ham fans because of the way they lost and it looked like it was going to send them down. watching the fanzone replay of it, gave me an insight into the passion of the average english football fanzone. i thought the west ham fan was going to hang himself. it was painfully to listen to the end of the match.

I think I remember that one. Do they ever get the fans loaded before the game or let them drink whatever during it? Still its so much fun listening to it.

I don't think many American fans can pull it off the same way though. For me the accent is one of the best parts.

This is one of my favorite commentary moments of all time, and favorite goals as well.
