Congrats to McHead on getting the arm band for Fulham.

ha, what's the origin of "McHead".

good for him on being captain. fulham usa.

Not 100% sure, but probably mixing his name with his expertise on aerial balls.

That's it.

Brian McBride will lead Lawrie Sanchez’ side out at the Emirates on Sunday and the Manager revealed the factors behind his decision to name McBride as his Captain on Friday afternoon.

“Brian’s the new Captain for the season and he’s an excellent professional. I didn’t want to give it to someone who’d just come into the Club and he was head and shoulders above other candidates after Michael Brown left.

“He’s a great professional and elder statesman in that respect but you wouldn’t realise it on the pitch. He covers more ground than anyone else – and he’s someone that is respected by the other players.

There was an opportunity after Michael left to look around and I just thought it’s something that would suit Brian at this stage of his career."

Hasn't McBride been voted as the best player on Fulham by his teammates several times? He has done very well for them, and probably deserves it.

Thanks for that link.

I hadn't realized that Oguchi Onyewu was American.

That name's as American as they come.

Feilhaber has moved to England

Benny Feilhaber has completed a move to newly-promoted English club Derby County after receiving a work permit from the UK Home Office upon appeal.

The 22-year old will arrive on Saturday to under go his medical and finalize the last details of his contract with his new club.

"Benny is flying in from Germany tomorrow," Derby's Matt Reeder confirmed to YA Friday. "He will then be an official Derby player."

The now ex-Hamburg player had sustained initial trouble acquiring the necessary work permit to play in England, but help from US boss Bob Bradley was enough to convince the Home Office Football Review Panel to overturn an initial denial.

"Bradley played a big part in Benny's move," Reeder continued. "He sent in a statement that Benny was a big part of the future of the US team, and that he has a secure place in the starting eleven."

"We couldn't be any happier with what happened."

The Brazilian-born Feilhaber will not be available for the first game of the Premiership season when Derby host Portsmouth on Saturday at the Pride Park and will not be unveiled until early next week.

"We are not pushing things because he will miss our first game," an excited Reeder concluded. "We will make an announcement on Sunday or Monday."

"One thing is for sure, the club and the player are happy is here."

Feilhaber will be the second American to play for the Rams, following in the footsteps of USMNT legend John Harkes who called Derby home during the 1994/95 season.

Wtg, Benny and Bob.

fulham usa was up 1-0 at arsenal going into the 80th minute. penalty on bocanegra puts it at 1-1, then hleb puts them up 2-1 at the very end of regular time.

mcbride, dempsey, and bocanegra all played. i watched from the second half on and didn't know dempsey was in the game until the 75th, he was completely invisible.

It costs points to make transfers if your looking to do so. With Rooney breaking his foot, I had to.

not according to the rules on the site

After selecting your squad you can still deal in the transfer market. Unlimited squad transfers can be made, 1 transfer can be made between each gameweek deadline without charge. Each additional transfer made in the same gameweek will deduct 4 points from your total at the next deadline. Free transfers are not carried over from week to week.

yeah, just make one a week. Unless you want this to be your "wild card" week.

Ummm

WashingtonPost.com[/url]"]Greetings again from Aeropuerto O'Hare.....

Here's the latest buzz from the windiest of cities:

USA-Mexico at Azteca on Sept. 9, rumored to be in trouble, has been cancelled. USA-Brazil at Soldier Field on the same day has been agreed upon. Not a bad replacement match, huh?

No reason given for the change, but Spanish TV rights were believed to be part of the problem for the original matchup.

So Brazil will play the U.S. lads on the 9th on ESPN2, then meet Mexico three days later at Foxborough.

No comment from the USSF, but expect an official announcement soon.

Does it HAVE to be the same day as the Bears/Chargers game!?

Of course, that's a lot of wear on the field leading up to the home opener with NIU/Iowa the week before and the Chicago Football Classic the day before the US/Brazil match.

He came in at the 46th. I hope he gets more of a chance to play and get a rhythm going.

He looked invisible because Fulham's central mids suck and couldn't hold any possesion, and when they did they attacked down the opposite wing.

The one attack they played thru Clint led to a scoring chance, but instead of pulling it left and getting and angle on Lehmann, he side footed it wide.

He looked timid overall, though. I don't know how effective he is as a sub.

BTW, Carlos Bocanegra is a calamity. And Marcus Hahnemman was a beast for Reading.

Ok thats what it was. I made two transfers after deciding to boost my midfield rather than just picking another forward.

I think Dempsey was put in a tough spot, because it was obvious that Fulham was going to mostly defend from the moment he was put on, and defending is not his forte. Still, he didn't look good, that's for sure.

Boca is definitely lucky that Zat Knight appears to be coming into his own as a stonewalling central defender.

Is it wrong to have a mancrush on Gerrard? He's the f'in man!

I just came to post this. What an amazing strike.

Me 3.

If Torres can keep up his play today consistently, Liverpool could do some serious damage. Especially if the Heinze transfer is forced.

I don't even know if it would crack Gerrard's personal top 20 goals.

That's putting it mildly. I was watching Match of the Day - he was amazing.

And quite amusing in the post match interview.

Yeah, I thought it was a curious substitution. Clint's defensive workrate on the wing isn't good. He's more of a central player, but Fulham don't use him there.

USA v Mexico in the Azteca is off.

USA v Brazil...in Chicago...is ON. for September 9th.

It's going to be awesome, except I can't remember if that's a FIFA date or not, so you might see the MLS All-Stars getting beatdown by Brazil.

Why is it being marketed as the "Clash of Champions"? Is Brazil playing itself? :)

Brazil and the US each won their confederation tournaments, Copa America and the Gold Cup, respectively.
