You can't refer to the walk as having taken the bat out of his hand. What about if a guy singles, steals 2nd and 3rd, and still doesn't score. Just because he didn't score doesn't mean it was bad to single, steal, steal. You take a walk if the pitcher is giving it to you because otherwise you're just swinging at bad balls.

I think the idea was that Davis wouldn't have pitched around Aramis if 1st base weren't open.

I agree with the not swinging at bad balls part, but Aramis probably would've seen better pitches without the double steal.

If Pierre is going to be in a lineup, he'd be more valuable in the 7 or 8 spot, where "small ball" might actually help produce a run every now and then. Why MLB teams feel they need to put traditional leadoff types in front of power hitters is beyond me. Henry Blanco can score from first on a D-Lee homer just as easy as Pierre can.

Oh. I took it as saying the walk took the bat out of his hands, as if he shouldn't have accepted the walk by swinging at the borderline pitches.

Prior looks incredibly sickly. When he was batting, it looked like it was dark around his eyes, he looks real pale, and it seemed even before the game started he was flop-sweating. In short, I forsee another DL stint within 48 hours.

Prior is done for. I'm convinced now more than ever that he will never be the same pitcher whom was drafted by the Chicago Cubs. His curveball and fastball are just not the same anymore. I feel bad for this guy who was drafted by a 2nd rate organization like this one.

Is it all the organization's fault?

From the Chicago Tribune, August 12:

"The Chicago Cubs announced that Mark Prior was put on the 15-day DL due to an unknown ailment. Dusty Baker wishing predicted 'Just wait until I get all my guys back, man, we're gonna be all right.'"

Exactly. I think that Aramis would have gotten a pitch to hit if it had been 1st and 2nd. Once it became 2nd and 3rd, Aramis needs to take the walk if they give it to him. I would agree that Pierre later down in the order might work better-I think the change became when teams started putting their best hitters, including their best power hitter in the 3 spot-they used to be 4 or lower, which means that the leadoff hitter was supposed to create a run before they came up.

YOu can definitely make a case for it or did you forget how bad he was abused in 2003? Crazy pitch counts and letting him go out there and pitch when he hurt his arm running the basepaths? Yeah, you can make a case. How's Kerry Wood doing these days?

I'm not ready to give up on Prior but, I believe he's done for this season, shut him down and find out what's wrong.

Oh well at least we learned and as a result are making sure not to abuse Zambrano. We won't make the same mistake 3 times.

Do you honestly trust this organization in making the right decision? How many times have they misdiagnosed someone already?

Funny though how Ozzie has 4 of the top 12 used pitchers in the AL, yet no one is blaiming him or the organization for over use.

Two different situations! Wood was hurt and had surgery. Prior was hurt because of crazy accidents line drive of the elbow, Achillie's Heal, Running into Giles etc...Plus he's never had any kind of surgery. I mean you can make a case if he blew out his shoulder or elbow but he hasn't...

I'm not buying the Giles collision as some kind of major injury. He went on the DL, came back and proceeded to go 10-1 with an ERA below 2.00. If he was hurt, he was on some serious medicine to mask it. mAybe he needs to go back on it.

It's important to note that baseball analysts in 2003 were saying that Prior was throwing too many pitches and that Baker's overuse might doom his future. It's not as if all of a sudden we're looking back in hindsight and connecting his injuries with abuse. As Steve Stone would say, many "first-guessed" Baker's usage of Prior and Wood.
