Prior with a much better, much faster second inning. This could have been a good start if the fielders hadn't screwed it up.

Prior wasn't blameless in that mess of a 1st inning.

i don't know about getting out of there without any damage...he had 2 walks and a HBP

Yeah, he should have given up 2 runs that inning.

How? Walk, flyout, Walk, flyout, flyout. The inning should have been over wildness or not.

I don't know if the ball hit to Pagan was routine, but the first one definitely should have been an out.

He was back to the wall and then just missed it, Murton would have had it.

I don't know. I like Murton, but he hasn't exactly played a gold glove caliber LF either.

No, but he does go back for a ball well. Add that to the fact he is a much better hitter, especially against lefties and you see why it is we pay Dusty the big bucks.

Murton is definitely a better hitter against lefties-and he is probably better overall, but he hasn't been this year against Pagan overall.

Also, games like this make me wonder how people can think the Cubs have a top 10 in the league defense. Haven't we seen people take extra bases and plays like those two flyballs all year long?

Yeah, you're right. I forgot about the ball that dropped between Pagan and Pierre and was assuming that would have been a hit. If that drops then the Brewers score 2 runs but that ball should have been caught. Thanks for the correction.

Do you watch all 29 other teams?

No.

I personally think the Cubs should option Prior to AAA and let him work out his kinks and get his confidence back. Then again, the Cubs aren't really playing for anything...

As Brenly noted, you'd like to see some competitive fire or emotion from him. He had that quite a bit early in his career. He looks indifferent out there. Who knows, like I can tell that from my couch, but it looks that way.

He showed some of that during the Mets game and last week. Let's face it, he's not going to be pumping his fist after K'ing Doug Davis down 3 runs. He hasn't had a lot to get fired up about lately. I have to say that he looks hungover today, though.

Prior's particularly shaky in the first inning because he rarely has his curveball working. He's not good enough right now to pitch through lousy defense, especially in the first.

CheapSeats, the gun that apparently the Brewers are using on their broadcast seems to be an mph or two slow vs the WGN readings (this is per Ron). Ron also thinks, though, that Prior did try ease up to try to regain some control.

Whyd does Prior seem to not care about his hitting anymore? He used to be the same type hitter Z is, now he just gives abs away.

When was he ever a power hitting pitcher? In 2003 he batted .250, but other than that he hasn't really been noteworthy at the plate, even for a pitcher.

Agreed. I'm not a huge rah-rah guy at all. He just looks comatose at times.

Thanks, Serena.

Some observers thought Prior wasn't fully healed up during his rehab starts because his velocity was down. It's worth watching.

Well I meant Z without the power a battler. He did hit for power in the minors though and had two homers here in '03
