.....will we see the Cubs move to that stadium shortly thereafter?

Baseball is no longer an Olympic sport. Why would they be building a new baseball stadium?

In Atlanta and Montreal they converted the main Olympic stadium into a baseball park. Turner Field was Olympic Stadium in ATL

The proposal calls for a temporary stadium to be built, so I don't think so. But if the Cubs were to build a ballpark in a new location that would retain its fans, a stadium on the lakefront near downtown would be a good spot.

I haven't read word one about Chicago's plans for the Olympics besides the fact that they made the final 3 for consideration. That's why I'm curious. Plus, another 10 years from now and Wrigley will be over 100 years old. At some point it's going to become unusable (sad as it is to say)

Eh, they could gut it and rebuild it from the inside out like Yankee Stadium.

if i had the money to buy the cubs, Wrigley would be gone. i would build a almost exact replica outside of new bathrooms, bigger concourse ect

I think I read that Chicago would not venture down that path. Apparently the IOC was rather displeased that certain funding used to build the Atlanta stadium was essentially subsidized for the Braves. I don't know what you would do with an empty olympic stadium, but Chicago officials made some representation that any additional stadium would be temporary. I think it was in the Trib.

I'd guess that's the Trib's intended long-term approach, given the money they just put into the bleachers.

ETA: plus they can sell us everything they rip out, brick by brick.

Once they start construction on the nearly $30+ million triangular building/underground batting cages, they certainly won't be looking to move. But yeah, the 80,000 track and field stadium would only be temporary (and south of Soldier Field, I believe).

Maybe I'm dumb (OK, I am dumb!) but how do you build a temporary stadium???? I mean, is it inflatable, or made out of balsa wood or what????

If you had the money to buy the Cubs, you wouldn't have made it making poor business decisions like that.

I'm not entirely sure, but it would be taken down after the paralympics and apparently reused.

its only a matter of time before it happens anyways (before a full renovation and or rebuilt), might as well make it exactly the same with more bathrooms

i wouldnt be surprised at all to see them do something big with the front in the near future.

i wouldnt change the field or the general layout of the seating, i would however hire someone to get rid of a lot of the beams that make what would be great seating in terrace reserved crappy

The whole point of a temporary stadium is to give Chicago the building with an 80k seating capacity that the olympic games demands noawadays. The chances of that stadium being renovated afterward into a Cubs stadium are pretty slim, IMO.

If Chicago gets the Games, some events could be held in South Bend. That's my main point of curiosity.

What if it meant turning it into a baseball venue for one, maybe two years while Wrigley was thoroughly renovated?

Okay, if we're playing what if, what if they do that, and while the Cubs are in the temp stadium, they win their first WS in 100+ years. Bet a lot of people wouldn't want them to tear down such a historic place.

And then it collapses under the weight of 80k Cubs fans going ballistic, and they have to turn it into a mass gravesite due to the collapse and build a whole other stadium anyway.

Wait, what were we talking about?
