I'm a Lakers fan. I remember the Hack-A-Shaq like it was yesterday and figured Shaq had a game of 25 FT's in the finals. I didn't know he had 39 though. That amazed me as well.

Do you also remember Game 7 in 2002 against the Kings?? ;)

One of these days, I am going to re-watch that game and just count the injustices that occurred.

Yes and the Kings choked in that game. It's Game 6 that you are thinking of with the injustices and I'll give you that one. Here are the box scores.

Game 6

Game 7

The Kings blew Game 7 because they went 16-30 from the free throw line while the Lakers went 27-33. Game 6 you can make a perfectly good case for so I'm not debating you on that one. The Lakers earned Game 7 but Game 6, well, you know.

EDIT: The Kings also shot 2-20 from three point range in Game 7.

Dallas fans are letting Stern have it.

Wow.

What were they doing? I turned it off after Wade threw it in the air.

Just booing him loud enough for the microphones to pick up. It likely won't be acknowledged in the media.

Did they ever explain why they changed to 2-3-2 for the Finals?

Media travel. Never underestimate the power of hundreds of reporters complaining about something.

Did they ever explain why they changed to 2-3-2 for the Finals? I haven't exactly been intensely following the series.

They have done that for years, I know for a fact that all of MJ's titles were won under that system. Why it is that way, I do not know.

BS. It's so that an underdog team has a better shot at an upset.

And to reward the team with home-court advantage with seeing their team win it all on the road

No, it's so hundreds of reporters, radio, and TV people don't have to fly to LA to Boston to LA to Boston to LA over two weeks. It's about logistics, not conspiracies.

Still lame. Why would you do something that could change the outcome of a championship series because the reporters might get a little tired? Pretty ridiculous.

Shaq took his first shot at Kobe and the Lakers when talking to Stephen A. Smith saying "We only had 0.9 of an argument, and I wasn't even involved." I can't wait for the Kobe jabs to continue all offseason long.

Baseball follows the same format -- for similar reasons, I suspect. Hockey doesn't, but the Stanley Cup finals draw a much smaller media contingent.

But doesn't MLB stay 2-3-2 for all the 7 game series?

Does that mean it's not travel related?

My point is that if you do 2-2-1-1-1 or 2-3-2, do it for every series. Changing something as significant as home court advantage should be consistent, no matter what the reason behind it.

While I agree with you that each round should be the same to keep it consistent, I believe that the NBA has a different format from the MLB because of where the teams are located. MLB has east and west coast teams in each league while the NBA separates the east and west coast teams. I'm not defending it, I'm just trying to provide reasoning behind it.

Oh, I don't care about that. I was responding to the question about why the NBA changes the format to 2-3-3 for the Finals.
