Jones/Ramirez /Willamson/ Willams to- New York

Cubs - ARod , some salary relief or low level A prospect from the Yankees.

I am hoping Hendry takes a long look at this roster and knows that he has two years to get this team back to the playoffs. That is no small order. It is going to take some serious spending this offseason. Hendry can take a huge first step in getting this team rebuilt. Having added one of the best players in the game that happens to play gold glove shortstop still in his prime is a franchise changing move by Hendry.

AROD was pulled in the 8th tonight with a "foot injury." The BBTN guys were all saying there is no injury, he was pulled for his awful defense during the game.

Steve Phillips said if AROD doesn't improve his D he will be "untradeable." Kruk said he will have to be the DH with Giambi moving to 1B, and they all agreed this could change the course of AROD's career. I havn't been following his defense this year, has it been bad all year or is it a bad stretch?

The more he gets booed in NY, ripped in the media, and the Yanks stay behind Boston the more cheaply I think he can be had. At this point I almost expect him to be traded before opening day next season if the Yanks don't make the playoffs.

Ah, Steve Philips.

What an idiot.

John Kruk has competition, I suppose.

Wouldn't ARod be the best DH in the league anyway? he was pulled because he has been trade to the Cubs . . .

Honestly, I could see Jim doing it out of desperation if the Yankees were that stupid (or also desperate).

Well, he's having a down year and is still leading all third basemen in the AL in OBP, OPS, SLG, HR, BB, and RBI.

And he still has a better OPS than Derek Jeter.

it says something when I'd feel worse about losing Jones than Prior :(

At this point, I would be happy with that deal, but I still don't think ARod will wear Cubbie blue anytime soon.

my sources are telling me the deal is:

Eyre

Dempster

Prior

and Jones

for

ARod

$20 million cash.

Uh, that makes no sense wouldn't we send over Ramirez as well?

That's what I would think. My guess would be to sub in Ramirez for Prior. I would say something like ARod for Jones, ARam, and a reliever or two.

Although that was an awful defensive performance by ARod yesterday, and although his fielding numbers are down this year, I'm surprised anybody looks at the Yankees left side of the infield and believes that the defense liability is Rodriguez.

NOW is the time to strike and bring him to Wrigley. Get him out of there and he'll be fine offensively and defensively. Move him back to SS where he can be the best SS of all-time. This stuff is total hyperbole.

He does have 16 errors this year, 8 of which are throwing errors (3 last night) which leads me to believe that he just needs to work on his arm angle a little bit. Probably similar to the problem Cedeno has had.

Or he just needs a better 1B to throw to...someone like DLee would help! :D

That boob Phillips said, on Mike and Mike this morning, that the Yanks "...must unload A-Rod because he will never reach his full potential in New York."

A-Rod (2005):

321/421/1031, 48HR, OPS+ 167 ...... AL MVP!!!!!

Phillips is a complete idiot. This guy was a baseball exec for a major market team? You have to be kidding me.

I wouldn't say it makes no sense . . . but yea, the yanks might want an infielder back.

This is the same Steve Philips who last night said the A's are interested in trading for Alphonso Soriano.

If there's an player who's the antithesis of BillyBall, it's Soriano.

Not only that, but he said that Soriano would fit perfectly with Billy Beane's aggressive style of play. . .

the second part, fitting in with Beane's aggressive style of play, is absurd. but it is not beyond Beane to go out and get a player that doesn't fit his overall philosophy to make a playoff push. we are talking about the guy who repeatedly traded for a proven closer. that's one of his strengths imo, the willingness to do what is necessary in a given moment, even if it doesn't fit in with what he preaches.

I've been thinking about Beane lately, and think he deserves some criticism, or at least whether his roster in the macro fits some of his overall philosophies needs to be looked at. it appears he chose the wrong guy to keep in Chavez. Tejeda and Giambi continue to put up great numbers, while Chavez has had a couple of down years. he may get nothing out of the last of his aces, Zito. a huge chunk of his payroll is taken up with two players who aren't earning their money, Loiaza and Kendall. furthermore, the only minor leaguers who seem to come up and make an impact are players that traditional scouts salivated over.

not saying Moneyball or SABR or Beane is wrong. I just think the job he's done over the past three years needs to be reexamined and is deserving of some criticism.

I was thinking the same thing...especially after listening to XM this morning when they brought up the stat that Oakland is at or near the bottom in runs scored in the AL...Billy ball doesn't seem to be scoring any more runs than Dusty ball...and that's hard to do.

Oakland is 2nd from the bottom in runs scored in the AL, and have still outscored the Cobs, 411-376
