So what inning do you think Wood's arm will fall off? I say it'll happen in the 4th.

Strikes out four in the first two innings. Then injured throwing a warm up pitch before the third inning.

So everybody else ready for another day of exciting Cubs baseball?

Yeah...well, me neither.

---------------------------------

I think the Cubs are gearing up to complete the game in 27 pitches. I think tonight's the night they make that history.

anyone else notice Hanley Ramirez is the NL batting leader?

It's obvious why the Red Sox were so hesitant to get rid of him the last 2-3 years.

Then again, I don't know what they were thinking with Casey Fossum.

Maybe if I mention this I will have to eat my words, but tonight looks to have the perfect matchup for a loss, a crappy lefthander who got rocked in his last start against Kerry Wood. Wood isn't quite back to normal and on top of that usually gets poor run support.

The good news is the Cubs supposely have a lefthanded batting practice pitcher. Maybe that will make a difference. Jones hit a homer off a lefty Sunday, do you think he will start tonight? My guess is yes for his stellar defense! :D

I have a good feeling about Wood tonight. He's facing a lineup full of young and (for the most part) poor hitters, and he has a spacious ballpark if he makes a flyball mistake. Keep throwing strikes like last time and I think we'll see a real strong outing from Wood.

I hope we see a significant improvement out of Wood tomorrow.

Why would it matteR?

(where's my prozac.)

I guess it wouldn't because the Marlins have a lefty pitching so at most we'll get 3 hits tonight. But I want to see an improvement nonetheless.

I don't even know if we want to win this game.

If we don't win, JH can never extend DB!!

Make no mistake, I don't want DB back, but I couldn't ever bring myself to actually root against the Cubs.

If it was announced that Dusty would be fired if the Cubs lost this game, I could easily root against them. They are going to lose at least 60 anyway. The problem is we know poor results don't necessarily guarantee any change.

I'd move Hairston to RF and put Theriot at 2B with the LHP, but I don't care enough to be upset about that anymore.

Yeah I'd also do this. Baker probably doesn't even know how to spell Theriot, though. I also don't care enough anymore, so whatever.

BTW - Anyone else surprised that the Baseball Lords haven't passed down a suspension yet on Barrett?

Maybe the "Baseball Lords" were just as pleased that somebody punch the crap out of AJ.

Yeah, but the longer they deliberate the better in terms of keeping Barrett in this terrifically underwhelming lineup during the appeals process. Gut feeling warning: I'm thinking they slap him with 12 games and via appeals it gets reduced to 9. Anderson gets 3. Fines for Mabry and A-Jole.

I think the ones that take longer might mean more games, since they are building their case. Kendall brawled on a Tuesday and was suspended by Friday, for 4 games. If we don't hear anything by today, you might be looking at a super long "statement" suspension.

I believe you just figured out why Baker doesn't start him. When he fills out the lineup cards he's like, "Terryoh...wait...that doesn't look right. Terioh? No! Drats! I guess it's Perez today..."

I could have been more clear. I'm speaking to how quickly Barrett would have to be benched. If they take longer, then hopefully Barrett's time in the lineup - until the appeals process is completed and the final verdict is given - will shorten the gap between his suspension and DLee's return, Ramirez starts to hit better, anyone starts to hit better, etc. Barrett's bat is still a decent threat to pitchers and removing him immediately via quick deliberation and no appeal would weaken an already meager lineup.

Of course, this is all "looking for the silver lining" conjecture. And of course there is a silver lining, right behind that category 5 tornado.

(My apologies if category 5 doesn't refer to tornados. I haven't watched Twister in a long time. ...that poor cow)

jones' homer sunday against a lefty assures him of being in the lineup against lefties for the next two months.

please don't get hurt, kerry.
