The 2006 Cubs are living proof of the lunacy of a 7 man pen. They are tied for 29th in innings from their starting rotation, and the pen isn't even close to being overworked.

So Wood's still going to start? That's good.

Not really. Since this season is over already we might as well throw him into quick freeze and warm him up for his 15 starts next year.

By my logic, I'm really close to quitting watching the Cubs, so they'll win this game to keep me intersted.

Kerry will exacerbate his shoulder and go back on the DL...

Bingo, we have a winner. I can totally see this happening, no work in between starts complained of soreness, this is a recipe for disaster and there will be no one to blame but the incompetence of the coaching staff for allowing him to go out there.

Not so fast...

Kerry Wood tested his arm on Monday and pronounced himself ready to go on Tuesday.

He threw his side session and said he was fine.

According to the Chicago papers, he did not throw a side. He played catch with Rothschild and that was it, he didn't throw off of a mound or exert himself like he would if he were throwing a normal side session.

When is opening day? These exhibition games are boring.

Especially when the Chippewa County Middle School team keeps beating us.

It's become Pavlovian for me with the Cubs. Every time I see a new game thread I throw up a little bit in my mouth. Not much. But more than a vurp. Just enough to ruin the next 3 hours of my day.

On the flip side, I've lost 12 lbs thanks to the Cubs making me sick to my stomach.
