  1. Stuff like the soriano bating leadoff and mentioning Prior and Wood make me think does this guy even watch baseball or the cubs for that matter
  2. Troy Renck Rockies beat writer wrote the following in the middle of an article about the the Rockies "Square peg, round holes Beyond the Mark Prior soap opera, beyond the Kerry Wood drama, it's becoming clear the Cubs have a poorly constructed roster. They don't have a reliable shortstop. Cesar Izturis has not hit, Ryan Theriot can rake, but would be challenged to play defense in the middle every day. And no one seems ready to give Ronny Cedeño another chance. And the outfield is a bit of a mess because of Alfonso Soriano's failed center-field experiment. Soriano also was switched to leadoff to get him jump-started. It's a short-term fix that makes no sense in the long term. You don't pay a guy $136 million unless he's hitting in the middle of order. With Soriano in left field, that means the Cubs will continue to try and trade Jacque Jones to clear a spot for Cliff Floyd. This is a talented team that could win a diluted Central Division. But the parts don't seem to fit. " it amazes me that these bozos get jobs as writers when they can't even get their facts right. First he starts off with Prior and Wood (no one was expecting them to be ready this year, at least I was not) and starting pitching has been the least of our worries Hill, Lilly, Marquie and Z are pitching great so far. Then he goes on about The Soriano experiment failing in CF when he was moved to LF due to 1) his injued hammy and 2) so Pie could play CF and soriano would not be moved back and forth It is not like Soriano could not handle CF, and it ended up working out better because Jones has played CF well and this also showcases Jones for teams looking for an outfielder. Then he says they are trying to make room for Floyd when it is really Murton who would prob get most of the starts once Jones is moved. Sorry for the rant I just hate sports writers who talk crap about the cubs when they are better than the team the writer is covering.
  3. bad Idea in my opinion because Prior is injured, therefore is one of the SP's (Big Z, Hill, Lilly, Marquis) goes down we would not have another SP to fill in. As of now Guzman would slide into one of the SP spots if there is an injury.
  4. 6 IP, 2ER, 2BB, 3K, 87 pitches
  5. I went to the Tenn. Smokies Game tonight and Jake Fox had a monster game. He hit 2 doubles and 2 Homeruns for a total of 5 RBI's. Justin Berg pitched and did not look good, he gave up 4 runs in the first. It was a good game it was also cold for Jacksonville FL only about 40-50 degrees out.
  6. Brantley sucks he is up there with the hawk, and Joe morgan
  7. He was born in 1978 he is 27 years old and will be 28 by the end of the year.
  8. So far we have drafted 13 RHP make that 14 with donald walters with pick #899
  9. According to BA, his fastball sat at around mid-80's this year and he depends primarily on command and deception--his BB numbers are outstanding. here is a little blerb about him from the UNF website it also looks like he has a twin brother "josh" "Three-time Atlantic Sun Pitcher of the Week winner Jeremy Papelbon is another potential prospect who may be chosen on either Tuesday or Wednesday. The hard-throwing left-hander led the Ospreys' starting staff with 89 innings, 88 strikeouts and an opponent batting average of .227. The second-team All-Atlantic Sun Conference selection also allowed the fewest earned runs (24) and walks (14) among all starters. The former Bishop Kenny standout is hoping to someday join his older brother, Jonathan, in the majors. "Jeremy was huge for our club this season," Rhodes said. "I think he proved that he has the tools and the skill to take his game to the next level. If he continues to work hard and get better each day, he could be something special."

  12. this is from the BA blog LaPorta Continues To Slide 4:40 p.m.: Defensive specialist Brian Jeroloman was taken by the Toronto Blue Jays in the sixth round, the second of the bearish Gator trio to be drafted today. The only player of the group remaining on the board is LaPorta, the highest ranked of the bunch this spring. LaPorta's disappointing 2006 and bonus demands are lending to quite the draft day fall, and they also lead to the distinct possibility that the Gators have bring their best slugger back. Look for LaPorta to follow in the steps of Jeff Larish and swing the aluminum bat for one more season. -- Bryan Smith
  13. First round money and letting him play football doesn't strike me as the greatest of plans. It's not like WR's ever get injured... and he is a pitcher, getting tackled and having your sholder driven into the ground is great for your fastball
  14. First round money and letting him play football doesn't strike me as the greatest of plans. I agree it would not take much to get hurt playing WR
  15. this is from BA "The Cubs, as expected, took Jeff Samardzija in the fifth round with their second pick. The Notre Dame righthander and All-America wide receiver intends to play both sports, which scared off teams enough to help him drop to the Cubs. The Cubs might spend first-round money on Samardzija in what's sure to be a back-loaded deal that allows him to play football this fall, a commitment Samardzija has made repeatedly. Samardzija has first-round talent with a fastball up to 94 mph and a developing slider that has shown improvement this spring as his season progressed and he got deeper into baseball season. The Cubs have a strong relationship with Notre Dame, as both scouting director Tim Wilken and especially GM Jim Hendry are longtime friends of Irish coach Paul Mainieri." -- John Manuel

  18. Really? From the way it was going, Marguis was probably going to walk Womack anyway, so the steal wouldn't have mattered. This is Dusty Ball
