Value of the Cubs is only about $400 million.

With the Yanks now being valued at $1 Billion and the Dodgers selling last season for $430 million, i would be shocked if the Tribune let them go that cheap.

I think it would take around $600-650 million to buy the Cubs straight out from the Trib.

And rule #2 about high finance...its not about asset value, but often times free cash flow.

"Your most valuable possessions are your twenty-seven outs."

Whoever believes it should be hired.

I really didn't have a problem with the Trbune Co. owning the Cubs, at least from a payroll standpoint. I've always been on the side of thise who have argued it's not how much money you spend, it's the way you spend it.

But now I'd rather the Tribune Co. sell the Cubs. The events of the last 2-plus seasons has led me to believe this is a franchise that needs a fresh start from top to bottom--new owners, new GM, new manager, everything. Heck, let's change the head groundskeeper too, while we're at it. This team is playing bad baseball. Incredibly bad baseball. The organization needs a major shake-up.

Give me Bobby V. any day of the week.

I'd take Brenly, though I think there are better options.

Cuban would rule. I'd love to see someone own this club who would make it his PERSONAL mission to bring a world series to the north side. Face it, the Tribune is faceless----they may have good intentions, but nobody in those board rooms are making the Cubs their personal crusade. Especially if it means telling stockholders the bottom line won't look quite as good this year.

Im not saying Bob is the best option but I think we need a change of scenery either way. So a former world series winner would sound good to me

Cuban's a media whore. Bringing a title to Chicago would make him king of the Sports World.

He'd embrace the challenge, and his desire to accomplish his mission would never die.

We should all be rooting for the Mavericks in the NBA Playoffs now. If the Mavericks win, that would probably be the best time for Cuban to cash out of Dallas and try to win one with the Cubs.

Im just sick of MacPhail not wanting to make this a better team and Dusty I want out Im sick of him as well. Brennley would not be a bad manager. I mean he has won a world series and wasnt a bad manager for the Dbacks. Theyve talked about him possibly taking the job either if Dusty ops out during the year or next year.

MacPhail hates to win and you're right, he doesn't want to improve this team at all. How perceptive.

Yes, because Cuban would instantly bring his "talents" to Chicago which would equate in a world series. Can he keep Wood and Prior's shoulders intact and healthy? Can he fuse Lee's broken wrist back in 24 hours with no recovery time? If so, I'm all for hoping he buys the Cubs.

Seriously, what would Cuban bring other than an arrogant owner with a mouth as big as his wallet?

Pragmatism from a guy named "bring stone back." I love it

I'm not saying he'd fix Lee's arm. That's not even a concern. We're talking down the road here. If you read the thread, you'd know we were talking about the accountability of solo or majority owners over corporations or "Insert City Sports & Entertainment" consortia. When the Yankees win, Steinbrenner wins. When the Yankees lose, Steinbrenner loses. These owners usually tend to care more about winning (get outta here Bill Wirtz). Cuban wants to win, that's obvious. He's also tried to implement statistical analysis into running the Mavericks, something fairly new for the NBA, so he's obviously on the cutting edge of sports research: no more "he's a great athlete, he's fast" crap. He knows how to hire good coaches, like Avery Johnson. Cuban would be a good fit for any team. Look what he's already done for the Mavs, previously an NBA laughingstock.

Cuban would bring an all-consuming desire to win that doesn't exist with the Tribune. Is it motivated by a vain desire to be worshipped? You bet.

So freaking what? Like he's the first owner to be full of himself. Hah.

I'd love to see him here. Although, to be fair, all of this was sparked by an off-the-cuff remark Cuban made on a radio show one day. There isn't anything serious that points to Cuban buying the Cubs. Nothing I'm aware of, anyway. A few comments made to Tony Kornheiser or whoever doesn't mean much.

We need the best manager, period. Get the best manager and best players available. Trying to match manager to players is a bad combination as player personell can change from year to year.

Start high with a new organizational philosophy... then everything can trickle down. I don't think a new manager will help the talent levels, pithcing problems, and offseason moves we need.

THE CUBS WOULD STILL SUCK WITH A HEALTHY LEE, PRIOR, AND WOOD.

A Manager who yells at the players and acts like an ass won't make Jacque Jones, et al hit the cutoff man or pay attention on the basepaths. One who hits the players the only place they'll feel it - in the pocket book - may get results. I don't know if its permissible but, some kind of a progressive fine system for each fundamental mistake would probably get Jones to hit the cutoff man once in a while. Edited by gflore34

There needs to be a "solo" owner like Steinbrenner or Cuban...I can't see anything else significantly shaking up this organization they way it needs to be. Owners like those two realize it's their name and face up there alongside the team if it wins or loses...they take it personal. Being run by nameless, faceless beancounters doesn't work...we're seeing it right now.

Steinbrenner has some pennants, the cubs have nothing, if a solo owner has a better chance of getting us a pennant, im all for it

Mark Cuban wears a T-shirt and his hair is messy!! How can such a man possibly succeed? I mean, he hasn't even won a championship yet. It's been like 5 years. What's the holdup, Mark!?!?!!

the NBA is a lot different than the MLB, namely the salary cap.

his team is also in the western conference finals

Sorry, I was being sarcastic. I'm a huge Cuban supporter and most of the criticism of him I see around here, is petty and invalid.

I sent in a desperation email to Mark Cuban, just to see if I'd get some response. As of now, I haven't gotten one, and I'm not really expecting one, but who knows...

Cube, I'm curious to know of your desire to one day own a baseball team.

I'm a diehard Cubs fan who is demoralized by ownership, management, and overall baseball philosophy employed by those in power. Its been bantered back and forth about your possible interest in purchasing the Cubs. I love the way you work with your team. There's legit passion and desire there, but more importantly, there's 21st Century philosophy at play where the "Old school" ideas about basketball aren't employed. Heck, your best player is an aggressive, slashing, and deadly jump shooter, and he's 7'. A complete defiance of conventional NBA

wisdom for a how a 7'er should play.

Cubs fans will always hold out hope that you will buy our team one of these years because we know you would do everything in your power to bring The Cubs Franchise to the limelight where it belongs. Think of the press you'd get for ending the Cubs' 100 year + drought! I get chills thinking about it.

Thanks for your time, Mark.

What's with all of the Bobby V love around here? Look at the talent on the Mets teams he had, then look at their records. He drove that team into the ground. If I had to choose between Valentine and Baker, and someone was pointing a gun to my head, I'd ask what was behind door number 3.

If you want a former Mets manager, find Davey Johnson, and throw money at him until he can't say no (if he has a price, Davey Johnson might be one of those RARE people that doesn't...).
