Haha. Ozzie's a tool, but that's funny stuff. And Hill was right on when calling AJ gutless. He got smacked by Barrett and then just ran out of the way when the benches cleared. If you got punched in the face wouldn't you want to go after the guy that clocked you? Not AJ. He runs away, and then smacks his chin to the crowd telling them it didn't hurt that much. Total WWF crap.

Showing it didn't hurt after fighting the guy and doing something to him is one thing, but yeah, that was so lame. What a wimp. I also don't see anything admirable about his teamates coming to his defense and tackling Barrett. If you are a man, you fight one on one or not at all.

Can't blame the teammates. That's what they're supposed to do. But if you watch the replays you'll see AJ get clocked and then he just backs out of the situation while his teammates go after Barrett.

Yeah, at least the Cubs players were out there too. I just have strong feelings about it because I was involved in a fight where one guy started a fight with me for pretty much no reason by coming up from behind me and punching me in the head. I responded by turning around and landing about 10 unanswered alternating hooks to the left and right temple. He responded by calling out for one of his friends to help him restrain me and the other to kick and punch me. I went from starting to pulverize one guy to getting the crap beat out of me by three. AJ's actions showed he is a female sex organ, and I despise men with that quality.

Owned.

Good Times!

The AJ non slide, the Barrett roundhouse, Hill's comments, Guillen's comments. They all mean nothing in the big picture.

What has happened is the media has been rerouted to something different to report about, which gives Dusty and Hendry time to breathe. And that's a shame. The Cubs lost this game 7-0. Heads need to roll.

Everyone now wants to discuss how Guillen is a tool, while completely ignoring Dusty. I'd trade Dusty for Guillen in a Chicago minute. It's really a no brainer. Your the GM, who do you hire?

1) The guy who is best friends with everyone on the team? The guy who excuses poor fundamentals and actually rewards it with more playing time? The guy who fill out his line up card upside down everyday? The guy who always has a new excuse for why the team is not playing well? The guy who thinks walks clog bases?

Or do you want the guy who:

2) Holds players accountable for their mistakes? Gets the most out of his players for fear they will be verbally abused in the Sunday papers? Wins a World Series?

Thank you for lucidly summarizing that which I have been inartfully attempting to say for some time. I totally agree.

The fight might not be over, even though Cubs catcher Michael Barrett has yet to respond to White Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski's offer to talk about their blowup and settle their differences out of the spotlight.

What are they gonna do, set up a fight in the alley after today's game? AJ does nothing after getting clocked, but then he calls out Barrett?

A.J. will probably just use Contreras' fastball to get payback.

I doubt it since contreras would then be tossed from the game. not to mention he will be batting in wrigley in july.

Agreed. The easiest way to get back at Barrett is to put another 7-0 on the Cubs today.

Taken completely out of context. He meant it more as a peace offering.

Pierzynski sent a clubhouse attendant to the Cubs' locker room to get a number for Barrett so the two could hash it out over the phone or make arrangements to meet in person but never heard back. Barrett accepted responsibility for his role in the fight.

So how many more Cub players are planning on making themselves look like complete asses while they continually get plastered day in and day out?

This is embarrassing.

If anyone assiociated with the Cubs' organization reads this: WIN OR SHUT UP.

Thank you.

So Brian Anderson will be held accountable for acting like a tool?

Yep.

Any minute now....

wow, people are rough on hill today. you'd think he lost all 25 games this year.

I'd settle for seeing him win one.

here's a fun fact...how many runs have the cubs scored in hill's four losses?

1 (that's combined)

pretty sure it wouldn't matter much if hill had an era of 8 or 1...the offense is the problem, not rich hill.

That doesn't change the fact that Rich Hill flat out sucks.

Ozzie was dead on with his comments.

he's thrown 40 major league innings. there may be some people who can predict the ability of a pitcher after that long, but you aren't one of them.

In the 43 major league innings that he's thrown, his ERA is over NINE and he's walked just as many hitters as he's struck out. Based on his time in the majors, it's easy to say that he sucks. Badly.

The worse thing about Hill is his age. Mizzou, go look up Randy Johnson or Kurt Shilling's numbers in their first few seasons. Most pitchers go through a learning process when they get to the bigs. Forty innings is nothing.

It is also extremely difficult to pitch when you know with one or two bad outings you are gone. Look at the Cubs track record. It's no wonder why they haven't produced many major leaguers from the minors. They do almost everything in their power to sabotage their success.

Rich Hill has sucked because the Cubs haven't made him feel like he'll be around for awhile, regardless of how he pitches? Umm... what?!

He's has four starts in the rotation this year - and they've all been horrible outtings. Not one of them has been close to a good outting. Until he does something, ANYTHING, to convince me otherwise, I'll be looking forward to his demotion back to Iowa.

his second and third outings weren't bad. had baker taken him out after six (as everyone knew he should), he would have had a 6 ip, 3 er outing. his third outing was 5 1/3, 3 er...not great, but not horrible. he also had three very good outings in '05.

of course, you're apparently a scout of some sort, so i don't know why i'm arguing it w/ you.

and he was already sent to AAA, copernicus.

The Cubs are already down one starter with Rich Hill being optioned to Triple-A Iowa on Sunday.

What are you, the president of his fan club? What other fan clubs of crappy pitchers are you a member of so I know to not say anything bad about them in fear of hurting your feelings?

His 2nd and 3rd outtings were bad, whether you choose to acknowledge it or not. His 2nd start he gave up 5 runs in 6+ innings... but Baker shouldn't have sent him out for the 7th because... why exactly? He finished the start with 100 pitches thrown, so a high pitch count obviously wasn't the issue. What was it? And in his third start he allowed 3 runs in 5 and a third, but he also walked five guys. That's a poor outting. And, of course, in his first and last starts, he got rocked beyond belief.

He had three very good outtings last year? Two or three, sure. But he also had 6 absolutely horrible outtings last year. So he pitched well 25-33% of the time. Should I be impressed by that?

Rich Hill sucks.

i'm done talking about this w/ you. i'm not claiming that he's pitched well, and i'm not saying he's going to wind up being a HOFer. all i'm saying is that nobody (especially you) can make blanket statements about a guy's career after 30 bad innings.

Should Ozzie shut-up too since his career OPS+ was a mere 69. Seems to be if being good in baseball is a pre-requisite for talking about it, Ozzie has said more than he's allowed.

So, I wonder how many managers Ozzie got fired with his poor play?
