  1. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20060521&content_id=1464636&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc Those of you defending Hill for his comments can give it a rest now. He knows he screwed up, and that only hastened his departure to AAA.
  2. I don't give a darn tootin' about the "social environment" or the "pecking order", if Hill wanted to make a comment on the play, he was entitle to his opinion, because he was playing at the time of the play. I don't believe a guy like Nefti Perez would have more say in situation like the "Barrett/AJP", a guy who is on the bench, then a guy like Hill who was ACTUALLY playing at the time of the incident. Sorry, YOU DON'T NEED TO BE A VET, that have an opinion about a play, and I am refresh that a "young player" has the balls to call out a veteran. A "young player" who calls out a veteran when the "young player" is wrong and the "young player"'s teammate is in the wrong makes the "young player" look stupid and makes his team look unprofessional.
  3. 43.0 IP, 0-6, 9.21 ERA, 44 ER, 32 BB, 32 SO I don't think it's out of line to say he sucks.

  5. That is the absolute truth.
  6. Shoulda, woulda, coulda. Some of you guys are missing the point. The collision did not spark the punch, per Barrett himself. It was Pierzynski's movement afterwards that Barrett "perceived" as hostile. Anyone with an IQ over a lump of jelly watching the replay could see Pierzynski did not move "hostilely". There is no excusing Barrett's classless act.
  7. Barrett's frustration is understandable, but what he did was completely out of line. It isn't justified just because Pierzynski is an ass. This classless display is not what the Cubs need to get "fired up".
  8. Kerry Wood won't be taking a pay cut as long as; a. Some other team will be willing to pay him more guaranteed. b. (more importantly) Scott Boras is his agent. Scott Boras is his agent? Not that I'm aware of. I thought the Hendricks brothers represented Kerry. Pat Rooney and Greg Landry are according to Cot's Baseball Contracts, FWIW. Sorry about that. I was given false information about Boras being Wood's agent. My "bad", then. there's little difference. they're all blood sucking vampires. If Wood wants to stay, then his representation will get it done. If he's lukewarm about the idea, his representation will get him a better contract on a different team. We'll see just how committed Wood is to staying in Chicago. Agreed. I'll guess we'll see where Wood's loyalty lies when the time comes.

  11. Since I have possibly the worst luck in the world when it comes to winning money, maybe I should start betting against the Cubs . . . they'd almost be assured of winning. I think my money curse is stronger than some stupid goat.
  12. If only the Cubs' injuries were more like Edmonds': http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/sports/stories.nsf/cardinals/story/22E597C2E97C1B688625713B0016A1D4?OpenDocument BTW, Edmonds spring stats; 26 AB, 13 H, 4 2B, 1 HR, 4 RBI, .500 BA, .552 OBP, .769 SLG, 1.321 OPS His health is still a concern. BTW, 26 ST ABs isn't too much to get excited about. I wonder what his numbers would have been had he been healthy enough to play in more games? In either case, the best team will win... I didn't say I was excited about Edmonds. I was just pointing out that his "injury" wasn't hurting his production. FYI, Edmonds didn't sit out a bunch of games because he wasn't healthy. He didn't play more because, like many veterans, he doesn't need much prep time to be ready for the season and it's a good opportunity for management to see more of the younger players.

Jim Edmonds with an inflamed elbow means a .500 ST batting average. Some things are just unfair. Your statement would be funny if there wasn't so much truth in it . . .

  15. I've always thought highly of Al Leiter, great ballplayer, and even greater guy. Watch out for him in the broadcast booth. He'll be great there, too.
  16. The first ST broadcast against the A's his first words (regarding the great weather in Arizona) were: "It's been like this all winter, Pat. I've been down here since April."
