He has hit the ball out of the infield...at least twice last game (flyball outs). Pierre's game is dependent on finding holes in the infield defense, not crushing the ball out of the park.

Oh really, i thought he was a power hitter or something. Youre telling me that Juan Pierre isnt a homerun hitter? Man I am SHOCKED. I dont even know what to say, up is now down, left is now right, right is now wrong, my whole life has just been turned upside down by your stunning revelation.

I just want him to get the ball past the second baseman, groundball, linedrive, something.

He needs to send out a new search team, because all he seems to be able to find is the second basemen.

he's not gonna go 4-4 or even 2-4 every game.

He's had a hard time with Willis, who he's never hit against.

Crap happens. The Cubs are winning. No need to bitch on this fine evening.

Read stat lines to educate yourself and you will know why. As Karros said last nite, Wrigley in April blows for hitters.

Juan Pierre .340/.354 away compared to .179/.207 at home.

When the weather heats up, so will Juan and ARam...just going to have to be patient until then.

While you make a decent argument and I agree with you, as Meat said, people are going to rip you for that.

Why? Because he can't hit one of the best lefties in the game?

Give me a break. It's early in the season.

Why would the weather have a tremendous impact on Pierre's game? He beats the ball into the ground the majority of the time, and hits very few flyballs that would be significantly altered by the wind.

Karros was probably just saying that because he couldn't hit in April. Then again, I'm not sure what his excuse was the other five months of the season.

Also, here are some stats from ESPN about the past five years...

Juice Box
Through Apr 25 2002 2003 2004 2005 2006
Homers Per Game 1.043 1.071 1.123 1.032 1.176
Runs per game 4.618 4.728 4.814 4.592 4.921
Aggregate SLG .417 .422 .428 .419 .439

So, everyone else has figured out how to hit in April... apparently Juan Pierre and ARam missed the memo.

I don't see what that proves. Pierre's legs are what gets him a lot of infield singles. Cold weather hurts that aspect of his game, big time, which isn't the case for the majority of the team, which doesn't largely depend on speed to get a base hit.

Something else to think about too for all of you stat geeks out there....

do you guys really think it is an accident that the Cubs lead the league in average with runners on and with runners in scoring position?

How do you really quantify the effect that Pierre has on the basepaths when the pitcher starts paying more attention to him than the hitter at the plate with your silly little numbers? Just look at TWalks numbers that have decreased over the last week since he was put in the #3 spot and Cedeno getting hot in the #2? Coincidence? Possibly, but I doubt it.

I don't get it. Pierre's not getting thrown out by half a step in half his at bats, he's just making outs all over the place.

in june, juan pierre is going to be so fast that he'll beat out routine groundballs to second twice a game
