What are the chances that the Cubs call up Sing and he turns out to be the next Albert Pujols??? :pint:
Posted

So 6 weeks in a cast, 3-4 weeks to build strength, 1-2 weeks of minor league rehab, 2-4 more weeks until he's really back to normal.

That sounds like 10-12 weeks for him to get back on the field.

So IN A CAST for 6 weeks really means what? Out 9 weeks minimum?

I would imagine something close to that. Probably 6 in the cast, 2 to rehab and start swinging and then a week of minors.

Just like with Rolen: his shoulder was shot and it stripped him of all of his power. Now, he's a 7th-place hitter.

Well, if he's out 8-10 weeks...I expect a trade of some time . I don't see the Cubs content to have Walker at first for that long or to use Mabry for an everyday starter. I don't think Sing or Restovich are long term answers either.

The question then becomes who can you get? We know we'll have to overpay because of the desperation of the situation...so I bring you the candidates:

1. Aubrey Huff- The Devil Rays won't contend this year, and moving Huff could make some sense for them. He's started really slow this year (think Jacque Jones slow), so he might be cheaper than other alternatives.

2. Phil Nevin- Right now, Nevin is the fulltime DH in Texas and is having a power surge even if his average sucks. Texas would want pitching in any deal.

3. Tony Clark- After a great year last season, Clark started slowly this year. With Conner Jackson ready to play everyday, the Diamondbacks might be motivated to move Clark and his contract.

4. Mike Sweeney- He has a big contract and KC sucks.

5. Other guys that could end up available: Choi, Lowell, Franco, Durazo, Ward

Well if it's this serious of an injury, there could be career-long side effects.

So much for the prodigious power for the next five years, hello overpriced paperweight.

Wow, the overreaction is rampant.

I've noticed everything I say will happen never does, so I'm trying my best to change the situation, what have you done?

LOL, I'm just trying not to freak out.

Not suprising at all. As soon as I hit work this morning, I announced "season over" just to eliminate any guessing as to my disposition.

Huff is on the DL with a sprained knee.

Chill, Rolen is still a power hitter. Last time I checked he's been hitting behind Pujols.

I think that may be a little over the top. The shoulder is the absolute worst joint in the body to injure, trust me I've had mine fixed twice. I would much rather break my wrist than tear something in my shoulder, there is just so much more structural support around the wrist than the shoulder that you can build up muscles to compensate.

If Lee is hurt for 2 months, then SOMETHING has to be done. Whether it's put Jones or Murton at 1st, and call up Pie. Or make trade for somebody big who could provide good offense at 1st, something needs to be done.

You know, I like that idea.

I'm glad you like the idea. So who do you think would be better at 1st? Murton or Jones? Funny the score analyst is talking about Murton at 1st and calling Pie up also.

I hope they do that over putting Mabry at 1st or Walker at 1st and Hairston at 2nd.

Cubs.com has a poll on who should play first with Lee out, and one of the choices is call up Jeff Deardoff. Who the heck is this? I can't find any mention of him anywhere on minorleaguebaseball.com or any other site.

Huff isn't even starting material. Clark would be ok. Sweeney is who I would want the most from that list.

1. Aubrey Huff- D-Rays will want a king's ransom.

But, isn't he hurt? I thought he was out like 4-6 weeks already.

2. Phil Nevin- Eh, I'm skeptical. I think the power surge is more a result of playing in Arlington.

3. Tony Clark- Could be an interesting move. They defintely do have the replacements down on the farm...

4. Mike Sweeney- Hm... Sweeney is a very good hitter. Probably the best bet (but at what cost?).

Like I said in Transactions, lets call the Marlins and see what they would want for Cabrera. See if Murton or Jones can play first for awile. The Cubs are gonna be real short on power if they don't do someting like that.

Won't happen, but just an idea.

AAA first baseman, sharing time with Brandon Sing since Sing has started the season slumping.

Can we just bean Furcal all series long when the Dodgers come to Wrigley? Hopefully with Zambrano leading the way...
