Cubs Game Notes

A few highlights.

The Cubs’ bullpen owns a 3.11 ERA (13 ER/37.2 IP) over the

club’s first 11 games … the 3.11 ERA is tops among National League bullpens and

second in the majors (Minnesota, 3.09).

© Chicago’s bullpen has held opponents to a .212 batting average, which ranks

second in the National League (Milwaukee, .182) and third in the majors

(Detroit, .202).

© The Cubs’ bullpen owned a 3.60 ERA (16 ER/40 IP) through the club’s first 11

games last season.

The Cubs lead the National League with a .313

batting average (51-163) with runners on base … Toronto leads the majors with a

.376 average while the Yankees are second at .332.

Cubs pitchers have held opponents to a .194 batting

average with runners in scoring position (14-72) … the .194 batting average against is

the third-lowest in the majors (St. Louis, .179; New York Mets, .194).

Dating back to last season, Cubs closer Ryan Dempster

has converted his last 21 save situations and tossed 28.1 consecutive scoreless

innings.

© The right-hander has converted his first two save opportunities this season, and

is just one save shy of tying the Cubs record of 22 set by Joe Borowski from

August 5, 2003-May 23, 2004.

© Dempster last allowed an earned run August 12, 2005, vs. St. Louis … he’s gone

30 straight appearances without allowing an earned run.

Greg Maddux is looking to earn the victory in each of his first

three starts in a season for the first time since 1994.

© Maddux last went 3-0 over his first three starts in a season in 1994 with Atlanta

… he posted a combined 0.35 ERA (1 ER/26.0 IP) in victories over San Diego,

Los Angeles and San Francisco.

I won't be going to any of the Dodger/Cub games. And I won't be able to watch tonights game. Wish they had this one on WGN, because I could then watch it. The bar I'll be at has WGN, but not a baseball package.

Sounds like the Dodgers will be running a make shift line up out there with no Nomar, no Kent, no Gagne, no Brazoban and no Izturis.

Ask if the bar has Fox Sports West. Its tpyically on all cable subscriptions. Dodger games are on Fox Sports Prime

Dempster schmempster; give me Williamson. He's been positively filthy in the first two weeks, with no hitter making consistent contact vs. him. (Opposing batters are only connecting on about 58% of their swings against Scott, mostly due to the fact that they are chasing a lot of his balls out of the zone.)

Good lord. Pujols just hit another home run! That's 9 on the season, and, I think 4 in his last 4 at-bats.

Gotta love the Dish! DVR is the best invention in the last 10 years!

GO ILLINOIS :D

To add something good to the topic at hand,

Why does our hitting suck so much against this Tomko? Lame.

BTW,

Dodgers suck.

Nomar = Mr. Glass from Unbreakable.

I am totally pumped to be going to all three games (my first at Dodger Stadium - should be exciting). A friend of mine got the tickets, so I don't know exactly where, but I think I'm sitting in the bleachers, near the visitor's bullpen all three games ($8 tickets are nice). If anyone else is gonna be there, I'll be in a Prior Jersey (cause it's the only jersey I've got).

SO excited.

Not to throw this way off-topic or anything, but you're from Los Angeles and you're a North Carolina fan?

Please tell me you lived in North Carolina sometime.

I grew up in North Carolina - basically spent my whole life pre-college there, and been a lifelong fan. While I didn't wind up actually going there, it was my second choice, and my oldest friend, my sister, and many, many other friends have all attended (or are attending) the school.

But I'm with you - I'm generally not a fan of people who just decide to be a Tar Heel or Duke fan cause they're good (especially Duke - gross).

Ok, that is understandable.

You might be taking a lot of crap from USC and UCLA fans there though for being a homer from North Carolina.

If my jaw didn't drop when I checked my account balance earlier, I'd probably be ordering MLB.TV right now, cause I really want to see Maddux pitch tonight. But I'm poor. :(

At any rate, Go Cubs!

Thanks, Bruce.

Kinda odd to see Dusty not put Jones back in the spot in the lineup that he last had.

? Wasn't Jones moved down in the lineup last Sunday or Monday, when Barrett was moved up to #5...

Barrett deserves to bat fifth right now. Jones should know that.

I like the lineup for the Cubs.

Flip-flop Jones and Murton and I'd love it.

if murt keeps hitting, that will happen
