i loved it.

IMB!, you hurt me. I thought we had something here.

Ps. I love the Firefly avatar!

Pss. Considering Pujols has started the All-Star game as a 3rd baseman, Outfielder and 1st baseman I would call him more than a DH. He can't pick it like D Lee, but he's not a liability in the field.

Why the Red Sox?

I'm picking the Red Sox.

I really like Crisp, Loretta, Manny, Oritz at the top of the order. Watch Loretta put up a .400+ OBP this year. His career high is only .391. But, he's never had guys like Manny and Ortiz hitting behind him. And he's moving from an extreme pitchers park to an extreme hitters park.

I like Boston's pitching staff better too.

Could it be that he is a liability defensively, which is why he's progressively been moved to positions that are increasingly easier to field? (i.e. wasn't good enough to stick at 3rd or OF)? He's not pretty at 1B either.

That being said, I'd still love him on my team...I think his bat by far and away makes up for any defensive deficiencies he has at 1st.

this is guaranteed, and also will be the shift that shows the new look of the division over the next five years or so... the cubs and astros will continue to decline while the brewers come close but not close enough to competing with st louis. the reds will suck for a while, and the pirates can become better than houston, but what does that mean, really?

the good thing though, is baker will be fired by the end of august, if not earlier. bad news is bruce kim will be named interim manager again.

It would probably be Larry Rothschild in that case, and if you're going to have Rothschild as interim manager then you might as well keep Dusty aboard because you can't tell the difference betwen the two with regard to pitcher handling.

Not trying to be confrontational because for all I know you watch everyone game, but do you really watch enough Cardinals baseball to definitively make that statement? He was moved to the OF because we got Scott Rolen. He was moved to first because he isn't very fast and there is less chance of injury. Everything I've heard (which is a lot) is that the move was made to maximize his career by lessening his chance for injury. In his last year in the OF he strained his bicep and they didn't want him throwing. He has also been playing with chronic plantar fascititus (sp?) in his feet. Running aggravates that. Where do you not have to run? 1st base.

I put as much stock in the sports media's (espn, announcers, etc) "expert" opinions as any semi intelligent person should which is next to none. Having said that it's worth mentioning that a lot of people rave about his transition to first, his surprising athleticism, and the fact that he someday will win the most worthless award in baseball at first base.

Not as long as D-Lee is in the NL.

That's the way it should be of course, but I could see Pujols' star power changing that.

I think Lee has enough offense to combat that. Didn't McGwire win a GG? What a joke that award is!

McGwire wasn't as awful as you'd expect at 1st. He wasn't great, but wasn't Kevin Millar out there.

The NL West is still horrendous.

The only way Albert will win a gold glove at first base is if DLee and the rest of the NL use ping pong paddles instead of gloves. The guy is awkward and uncoordinated. And yes I live in STL and watch the Cardinals games quite a bit. He had 11 errors in '04 and 15 errors in '05. That is regressing at its best. He is the best hitter in the league w/o a doubt.

Predictions

Cardinals

Cubs

Astros

Brewers

Reds

Pirates........no one wins more than 95 this year

If the Cubs catch a few breaks and the bullpen aquistions of Eyre and Howry pitch effectively:

1.Cubs

2.Cards

3.Brewers

4.Astros

5.Reds

6.Pirates

Realistically:

1.Cards

2.Brewers

3.Astros

4.Reds

5.Cubs

6.Pirates

I'm assuming the worst, Wood tries to go in May, gets hurt and doesn't pitch again until July/August, Prior suffers a concussion when a rock dropped by a Pigeon lands squarely on his head, keeping him out until August with vision problems, Eyre and Howry implode, Ramirez pulls another hamstring, Neifi gets 500+ AB's. All, save for Prior injury, will most likely occur, my motto as Cub Fan - assume the worst, hope for the best.

And the Reds acquire good players???
