Should Hendry trade for Matt Clement?

This is only my second post on here, so sorry in advance if this subject has been discussed. I was wondering what you guys think about Hendry pursuing Matt Clement. With Wood's uncertainty, I'm hoping Hendry will try and trade for him, and bring him back. Now I know the Red Sox may use him in some kind of trade for a shortstop, but I wish Hendry would pursue it anyway. We traded Van Buren to them already, although he isn't a established Major League pitcher. Maybe if the Red Sox don't get Lugo in a trade, we could send Neifi to Boston for Clement, and maybe a minor league prospect. Just some food for thought. Edited January 14, 2006 by Kyle

Sign me up for the bolded part. I don't think Neifi can be traded without consent yet, but I approve of nearly any trade that sends him out of town.

It will take significantly more to get Clement from Boston...... they know how awful Neifi is just like us.

 

Don't expect Hendry to go after Clement or other starting pitching right now. It looks like he thinks he has a surplus with Williams, Rusch, Hill going for the 4-5 spots.

I like Clement and worry about his health even before the liner, he just gets fatigued almost every second half. Him, Prior, and Wood appeared to have a great relationship.

 

We'll see what the pitching looks like after next off-season and whether or not Wood comes back, how pitchers like Guzman, Hill, Marshall, etc progress.

 

But, if they have a spot in the rotation that needs to be filled and Clement is a FA, I'd have no problem with them going after him. I think he's a pitcher that needs a similar workload closer to Maddux than Zambrano though.

There aren't many that I wouldn't support, but those are two.

Clement would be fine to have for the regular season I guess.

 

I question the guy's mental toughness. He doesn't seem to be worth a damn down the stretch or in the playoffs.

Clement is not even an option for the Cubs. In September of 04 the Cubs didnt even want him to pitch. He is a horrible second half pitcher, and he is medicore at best.

Clement is a decent pitcher that seems to wear out from the stress of his pitching mechanics pitching during the season so maybe aquire him and put him on the DL until June. :D
