  1. Good Lord, some of you are paranoid.
  2. Aardsma is nice to have as well.
  3. Please tell me you are not referring to Murton/Grissom in the same light.
  4. I would agree that they both could be nice assets on the bench. However, I'm not sure how much of an "actual future" they have. They both have career utility/bench guys written all over them.
  5. Yeah, ESPN's scouting isn't worth and doesn't mean anything. It's nothing worth getting up in arms about.
  6. It's the first spring training game. Do you think that Bryan Corey is going to be a long relief man on the major league team too?
  7. Wasn't it a Wild Pitch 2nd rbi for Aram I'm not real sure if it is going to be a steal or indifference. It sounded to me like Hairston was going and the catcher couldn't handle to ball and just didn't make an attempt at him. Then that is a steal. Especially in the second inning.
  8. Which to me says you don't trade anyone out of the current bullpen. With Dempster, Howry, Eyre, Williamson, Wuertz, Ohman and Novoa, you should be able to put a strong bullpen together. Removing any of them (at least prior to the all star break, ie Williamson rumors), IMO, could turn a strong pen into a weak one. At the trade deadline, Williamson would have much more value than the value he has entering ST. Honestly, I don't see the rumors of a Williamson trade as anything other than just rumors. Maybe someone in the media is reporting something just to report something. It seems rather baseless to me. I'll believe it when I see it. Especially when Williamson might end up being the best arm in what appears to be a talented bullpen. And I agree...no moves should be made from the bullpen at this time...aside from maybe moving Welly.
  9. Yeah, but as far as stability goes, there are probably only 10-15 relievers in the whole game from whom you know exactly what you are going to get. What Howry and Eyre give the Cubs isn't guaranteed, no. But they do give the Cubs a higher liklihood of better bullpen production than what the team had last year.
  10. The fact that they are not right fielders is irrelevant.
  11. How can you not like them as players? You might not like their price tag, but they certainly help the bullpen.
  12. edit--misread UK's post. I'm still with Gooney on this one though. I don't see how pitching Z in a simulated game vs. another start in those first 2-3 weeks (on normal rest) really helps the team.
  13. viewtopic.php?t=28740 That link is not working for me for some reason Works for me. The 4-man rotation at this point is an awful awful awful awful idea. very much agreed-we will be wanting that rest down the stretch- It's only two-three weeks or so...and a max of one "extra" start for each pitcher during that time frame...still on normal four days rest. It's not *that* bad of an idea.
  14. It's still a leap of faith at this point in time to say that Upton will be a better major leaguer than Young...especially considering Upton has absolutely no college or minor league experience that has (at this point) lent us an indication of his performance past high school. That's my point.
  15. I agree, Dusty has no choice in the matter. If Mabry or Grissom play more than once every two weeks, the Cubs will be a 4th place team. I'll be surprised if Murton plays more than 3 times a week unless he is on fire and then it'll be 5 out of 7 games tops. Then you will be surprised.
  16. Just an opinion formed from the universal reactions of scouts who have watched Upton play. He's been under a microscope for years now and has impressed everyone who has reported upon seeing him play. Upton may not have yet played pro ball, but he's hardly imaginary. Young has holes in his game that minor league pitchers have been able to exploit. He's a very good prospect and I think he'll be fine in the long run. But I have a theory that players with that kind of strikeout rate in the minors adapt more slowly when they hit the bigs. No, Upton isn't imaginary. But it is unfair to Young that you point out what minor league pitchers have been able to exploit in his game when Upton has yet to have a chance to have any holes in his game be exploited (beyond high school pitchers...big whoop). It's almost like you are saying..."Upton won't get exploited as much as Young, trust me because the scouts say so." That assumption you are making certainly makes Upton's minor league numbers "imaginary", so to speak. I mean, I certainly don't disagree with your theory about strike out rates and how they may predict how quickly a player adjusts to the bigs, but you really have no way of knowing whether or not Upton is going to have high K rates through his stint in the minors either.
  17. Quite a statement. Especially considering you have no college or minor league statistics from Upton from which to draw upon. It seems a bit unfair to pit Young's statistics against an imaginary foe.
  18. I would be ecstatic if Iowa could get EITHER a 2 or a 3 seed. It's the 4 seed that I worry about.
  19. What is Pac Bell called now? SBC? That is by far the best park I ahve been to.
  20. Of course HBP numbers can be somewhat predictive. Look at what Biggio did year in and year out as far as getting hit by pitches went.
  21. I've never known anyone to be in the first 400. How long did it take for you to actually buy tickets? Do you remember what time they processed your order? I think I got to the ticket window at about 10:15...fifteen minutes after sales went online. At that time, I was still able to get tickets to all but the saturday Red Sox game. I did feel a bit nervous having approximately $1500 worth of tickets in my pocket in the El, but aside from that, everything worked out great.
  22. 5365. I was in the first 400 or so last year. I'm not getting my hopes up too high for it happening again.
  23. You are kidding about Ibanez and Floyd, right?
