Weis was on ESPN Radio a few minutes ago, saying that they have recieved all the faxes, but I have no clue if there were any surprises. Hopefully it gets released soon. He also said many of the frosh will start by the end of the year, and he likes their chances of being a contender, not an also-ran.

Edit: I misheard Weis, he said he would like to be a contender, not an also, not that he likes their chances of contending. Also he said that since they only took 15 last year, they will have 25 openings next year, to go with the (i believe) 27 from this year.

LSU has picked up a verbal commitment from Deas, though his signed letter hasn't been received yet. This is a big pick-up for the Tigers.

It's just a matter of him qualifying. That's why FSU cooled on him towards the end. If he gets in, he'll be a beast.

This is LSU. Accademics aren't always at a premium there.

McCoy (who im stoked about) and Greshem (who is highly regarded, but im less stoked about) pick OU.

Granger and McCoy at DT in a couple years will be amazing.

I just noticed this, forgive me if it's already been discussed, but it seems as though Purdue is banking hard on JC transfers and a bunch of "other guys" panning out. Wow, their incoming class looks pretty ugly.

Yeah just by glancing at ESPN Illinois looks to have done a better job this year.

Scout.com has a live updating page. I'll post a link. Most of the LOIs were in when I last checked.

Edit: According to rivals.com, they've all signed.

All of ND's expected recruits appear to have signed except for one. ESPN has them listed as the number 5 class in the country. Very nice for Year 1 of full-on Weis recruiting.

Weis said they were going to keep one spot open for a walk-on today during is PC.

An article I read in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch said Illinois' receiver recruits are the 3rd best class in the nation behind USC and Auburn. Where exactly did that come from? Zook is getting it done.

Not sure why McCoy waited so long... seemed everyone already knew he was going to OU but he held off on announcing until today. From everything I have heard, he should be a very good player.

Not all that exciting of a signing day for PSU with 24 guys coming into the day as solid verbals. The only real drama was related to Hazelton, but I think he will be going to USC.... to me it looks like his dad really wants him at PSU, but VH's heart is set on USC. Best of luck to him.

In any case, PSU signed the top class in the Big Ten and what is very close to a top 5 class nationally. I think that the biggest needs in this year's class were addressed - 2 good QB recruits, 2 good HB, 5 OL, 8 DL and the top CB recruit in the country. Hazelton would've been nice, but with PSU's top 3 receivers (Williams, Butler, Norwood) all having 3 years of eligibility left and another top 5 receiver (Bell) already signed, he wasn't a need. Both the people on Rivals and on Scout say this is one of Paterno's top three classes ever, ranking up there with the Matt Millen class and the one with Ki-Jana Carter.

In case anyone cares, the Weis presser. He briefly talks about Mustain, the Fiesta Bowl, Lemming, and of course his recruits.

Q. You mentioned the two quarterbacks. There was a lot of speculation late in the process there might be a third quarterback. Was that ever a thought?

COACH WEIS: Well, I think we all know who we're talking about. He really wanted to come. It would have been nice if that would have worked out. The way it worked out for everybody involved is the best for everyone involved. It's really important when these kids trust what you're saying and you say, "This is what we're going to do." If you go back on your word, you're going to have a problem. It's great to know that guys want to come jump on board, but you also have to be true to your word at the same time. There becomes a conflict sometimes. As a coach you say, "Let's take him, let's take him." As a guy trying to set up a program, you have to be true to your word.

This is interesting. I didn't realize that ND ever really had a shot at Mustain. I'll trade him for Jimmy Clausen, though.

Yea, I found that interesting also. I also liked these parts

Q. What is the difference between recruiting rankings and Charlie Weis rankings?

COACH WEIS: Here is the only benefit of recruiting rankings: the kids for the next year read those rankings. But really, what do I care? If I like a player, what do I care whether somebody else likes him? It's just whether I like him or not. But people are influenced by those type of things. People are influenced by ratings. They're influenced by it, right or wrong.

As far as a football player, I could really care less. If I think a kid is a really good player, what do I care if he's half a star player somewhere else? Obviously, I think he's pretty good or else I wouldn't be offering him a scholarship that is worth a lot of money here at Notre Dame.

Q. You mentioned Toryan and Burkhart as a couple of kids that you hoped or expected would be in the mix. Are you expecting most of these kids to be in the mix or certain positions where there's not going to be opportunity?

COACH WEIS: Remember, over the last three years, the numbers have been lower as far as signing goes. What happens then is your roster is thin. That doesn't mean you don't have players, but your roster is thin. What that does, it opens up opportunities for guys to play earlier in the career.

I would hope that three years from now I would not have the same be representing the same thing I'm representing now because now you'd have high numbers in all these positions. Now you'd only be spotting, taking a guy here, here and here.

Any time you have a senior starter departing, that position is wide open. When you talk about Toryan or you talk about Ryan, you're talking about two guys that have senior starters departing. Any time there's a senior starter departing, you'd have to say there's a possibility for a young guy to work his way into the mix faster.

That doesn't mean that any senior that's returning is etched in stone. If a young guy can come in, I'm not in love with anybody. I'm in love with the guys that give me the best chance of winning. If a freshman can come in and beat out a senior, so be it. That's what gets you fired, playing guys just because, "He's a senior, so I'm going to play him because he's a senior." You got to play the guys that give you the best chance of winning.

If only Ty or Davie had used that same philosophy
