Mitch Mustain, the top rated QB, is interested in ND but there might not be room for him, according to an article in a recent South Bend Tribune.

If Jones will move from QB, then there will be room. Not very likely, but the only way it will happen, IMO. As long as ND doesn't have to pull a scholarship, I would love to see ND get Mustain.

Rumor is that not only is Mustain leaning heavy toward Arkansas, but he may influence some of his high school teammates that way. TE/LB Ben Cleveland already changed his commitment from Florida to Arkansas, and coaches are to talk with WR Damian Williams soon.

Mustain already commited to Arkansas, then decomitted, after they fired the coach who recruited him, in order to hire his HS coach. This was also after Cutcliffe went to Tennesse, whom Mustain has wanted to play under for some time.

Yes, that was addressed earlier in the thread. I'm talking about new developments.

Interesting. I haven't heard anything else about him going back to Arkansas. I would be suprised if he did, but anything can happen. Notre Dame did make an official offer, which I am not to crazy about. If I had to put money on it, I would say he becomes a Volunteer.

i dont know their names, but i read somewhere that illinois is in fact planning on fielding a team for next year, so i suppose that's good news for people who go their football games.

Wouldn't forfeits be more entertaining?

i would actually go to that. ESPECIALLY if they announced it on campus but somehow kept it a secret to the other team. id love to see the other team's reaction when we sent the waterboy over to the other sideline to tell them.

Wonder if they'd still be out at COs after that the way they are after losing by 50.

they'd probably file a request with the city to allow the bars to be open at five saturday mornings before games

of course, i may be giving the team a little too much credit by assuming that they haven't been showing up to games drunk already.

Crap. Eric Bienemy, UCLA's RB coach and recruiting coordinator (who helped recruit Maurice Drew, Ben Olson, Terence Austin and a bunch of good OL prospects) has left to be RB coach of the Minnesota Vikings. Bienemy was what was keeping UCLA's average recruiting (under Karl Dorrell) afloat. :(

For whoever was asking, national signing day is Feb. 1st

To clear up some Mitch Mustain news, no, he was never reoffered a scholarship from Charlie Weis. Weis told Frazer and Jones that he was only taking 2 qb's and he kept his word. Earlier today, Mustain recommitted to Arkansas. Notre Dame remains the top choice of the football Lebron, Jimmy Claussen.

I'd hold off on such lofty comparisons for Claussen.

Not my words, Raisin. I've only seen two videos on the kid and he does look like he could start for some college teams next year already and, if given the choice, i would take him in two years over Mustain next since Brady is still here. However, with all the hype on the kid I wonder if it's even possible to live up to it.

Unless he picks UCLA of course! :D

Hopefully he becomes the next Ron Pawlus, and I mean that in every way.

ND was set to reoffer if Jones was willing to switch to WR, which may happen anyway, due to his shoulder injury. Rivals had him listed as being reoffered by ND, but that was inaccurate. However if Jones was definately going to be switched, the offer would have immediately been on the table, per the South Bend Tribune.

EDIT: Todays SBT quoted Jones as saying he will definately be playing QB for ND, and his shoulder is around 85%

I hope so too - as long as he doesn't go to ND. That said, I don't think the Irish will be unlucky enough to bomb out on two can't-miss QB prospects in a row. But I'm not willing to count Jimmy as an ND player until he commits.

oh I see, who leads for him?

As I said before, I really believe he is Notre Dame's to lose. Weis had him in for junior day last weekend and he admitted to wanting to commit before his football season next year. If I had to predict I'd say he's an 85% lean to the Irish.

Hopefully he becomes the next Ron Pawlus, and I mean that in every way.

I don't know if that's supposed to be negative or not. When Powlus finished up at ND he was their all-time leader in completion %, touchdown passes, and lowest interception rate. He was also third all-time in passing yards all while playing under Holtz, who couldn't develop a drop-back passer for the life of him. He definitely regressed while playing for Holtz and his power running/short passing game and still had a more than respectable career. Heck, Holtz even tried to run the option with him.

Ron holds a diploma from Notre Dame, graduating with a gpa over 3.0 and is now one of the brightest young recruiting coordinators in the college game. He's also one of the most genuinely decent and polite individuals I've ever sat and talked with. So, I agree with you both, I hope Claussen comes to Notre Dame and becomes the next Ron Powlus.

I'd rather him come to ND and become the next Brady Quinn (minus the 03-04 struggles which were clearly Willingham's fault more than anything).

Heh. That'll happen the same year the Cubs win the World Series and the Bulls win the NBA championship.

For a true sophmore Quinn was pretty good last year. Go look at Jamarcus Russells number this year (hes a red shirt sophmore) they are compareble and Quinn was a year younger at that time he put up those numbers. Both came out of HS equally regarded. I say Ty did pretty well with him or les miles must suck too.

What school is he the recruiting coordinator for?

He will... Notre Dame is becoming the place that everyone wants to go now. They're the new Duke or Yankees of college football.

His actual title is director of personnel development and recruiting organizer. He does this for the University of Notre Dame.

Did you wake up 60 years ago? ND has on and off been the #1 preferred destination for HS players for a very long time, you know.

You can't say that about the last decade or so pre-Weiss.

I know that. That's why I included the phrase "on and off".
