Why am I having this Clark Grizwald waiting on his Christmas bonus like feeling lately??

Because you're about to embark upon a zany adventure?

Or could it be that Babyface Pierre could end up being our "christmas bonus" this year.

Does that trump a years membership to the Jelly of the month club??

Um....the story isn't on latimes.com anymore.

And the plot thickens...

HAHA. This is awesome. I'm loving every minute of this crap.

Some one PM Len.

Hmm.... Check this out. This report came out 8 minutes ago (though it sounds like one that came out this morning)

Rafael Furcal's price tag continues to rise with two teams now offering more money than the Atlanta Braves.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have offered the free-agent shortstop a three-year deal worth $39 million, a person familiar with negotiations told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. It would make Furcal the highest-paid shortstop in baseball.

Los Angeles' bid came on the heels of a five-year pitch worth nearly $50 million from the Chicago Cubs.

BUMP cause this is important to see.

i'd rather lose this next year and have hendry and Dusty run out of town than win and endure many more seasons of this garbage.

i've put up with enough losing seasons in my life. one more won't kill me if there is a real possibility of change for the better down the road.

I'd rather win. Period.

I don't care if (insert most hated person here) is coaching the team, I want to win. If you don't think that's possible with this management team (and I think that's what you're saying), that's one thing. But to wish for losing is something I just don't understand. They don't have to win my way, I just want wins.

I think what he means is he doesn't want to see 85 wins out of team that has no chance to win the WS thereby saving Dusty's job. If the team wins the WS, I'm with you - but back to back winning seasons is not good enough.

If he comes to the Cubs

1. Will they make a hat small enough to fit his head?

2. Will they make him wear it on his head bill forward?

Inquiring minds want to know!

But does he want a hat that fits his head? I think the majority of his power is derived from the baby-esque features. Pitchers don't want to be mean to a child, so they don't throw at his face when he tries to bunt for hits?

He really needs a mustache. I would probably be on the bandwagon for trading for him if he had a huge stache. I can relate to mustaches more than I can to being a baby. I haven't worn diapers in years, but I wear my mustache everyday.

SABR that! MCBA will rule the next decade in baseball! (Mustache-Centric Baseball Analysis).

See, now there's an idea I can get behind. Field a team made up entirely of jelly. It'd be a fun (and tasty) way to get rid of our current problems. Although I'm sure we'd have to sit idly by watching older, moldy jellies play day after day while new, more delicious jelly sat on the bench.

The story on latimes.com now simply says the Dodgers have OFFERED Furcal 3 years at 40 million.

Hmmmmm...

Who else sees a "Furcal to Cubs at 5/48" story coming?

this is really upsetting....Another year of wait till next season......This team needs a new direction..........this sucks....the cubs suck

Let's not pretend Furcal was going to tip the balance. If this is true, it is a good thing that Hendry didn't try to go after him further,

Of course, in that case I'm with you. 85 wins shouldn't be a goal, it's a disappointment. However, sometimes we'd rather be right than good, and I'm just trying to clarify. I admit that this team drives me nuts with its style of play, but if it was winning, I'd learn to love it.

Heh..

yeah but I seriously don't see the other story on there anymore. Just the one about the offer to Furcal.

Well, if anyone wants to try to be optomistic, its been an hour and a half...still no other media reports.

Please quantify your optimism.

Are you optimistic that Furcal took our original offer and this report is just wrong?

Or,

That we upped our bid to beat out the Dodgers and this report was prematurely made before we outbid them?

How about

Optimistic that hendry still might get furcal so he doesnt have to go into panic mode.

I'm not sure, I'd almost like to see panic mode. At least it'd be something different, right?

All that I know is that the last few years are not what I would like (in all respects really - wins, player acquisition, managing, excuses).

the article is still up for me.

The wording was changed:

Before:

Free agent Rafael Furcal has agreed in principle to a three-year contract with the Dodgers that would make him one of the highest paid shortstops ever, a source close to the negotiations said Saturday. The deal would guarantee Furcal, 28, nearly $40 million.

After

The Dodgers are so intent on signing free-agent shortstop Rafael Furcal that they have offered him a three-year contract worth close to $40 million, a source with knowledge of the negotiations said Friday night.

The package would give Furcal significantly more money a year than offers he has received from the Chicago Cubs and Atlanta Braves. The Cubs have dangled a five-year deal for about $50 million, and the latest Brave offer is no more than $36 million over four years.

Maybe it hasn't been finalized?

All good points. The high socks, girlish stature, smallish head, hat asque. That has Little League World Series conotations.

I wouldn't want to bean a baby either. At totteler though that is a horse of a different color.

How sweet would it be if he had a Rolly Fingers handle bar Mustache?
