Have any Chicago media sources reported this story, yet?

FWIW, the LA Times is owned by the Tribune Co.

True, But I still find it odd that its been close to an hour and NO other media source has reported it except the LA times has reported this.

I just noticed that Chicagosports.com took down the article they reported around 8:pm tonight. I wonder what's up with that???

What did that article say?

Just a bit about how Hendry hoped to have Furcal signed in the next couple days.

maybe corey will be our lead off guy

Huh?

Nevermind I had you mixed up with the other Santo name that just said Cedeno=Patterson and I thought you were referencing that. Disregard my "huh". :D

No, Neifi follow's Jim's philosophy of catching the ball.

Soriano doesn't. That's why this doesn't make sense.

Not really joking either.

You're right, and that makes me sad. Has anybody told him that you can get quality offensive players that play good defense? (Bradley) It doesn't have to be a one or the other type of thing, right?

So let's set the over/under on ABs for Neifi this year at 550?

Neifi was going to start anyways. He got starters money. If we snagged Furcal, Neifi would get his PA at 2B. All we did today is limit the damage JH tries to do to this team. Neifi was a blow to the 2006 and 2007 Cubs already inflicted upon us by our GM.

well, its officially been an hour. shouldnt other corporations be catching on till now?

Still holding out hope? :D

I'm not sure If I want him or not really. I find it really odd that no one else has picked up on this though.

I believe the title was something like "Furcal holds the Key..."

I guess that didn't sit too well with the Trib.

Please don't make me think about Neifi in 2007. I've already convinced myself that we'll have a different manager then. If used correctly, he 'could' be a useful player (worth about .5 mill, not 2.5).

I'm a little afraid of what Hendry's backup plan could be. It's not like his A plan was gangbusters...

I agree. This has been out for a long time in a major newspaper and yet no other media source has picked up on it.

It's likely those outlets are trying to verify it using their own sources. Since those outlets probably don't have contact with the "source" used by the LA Times, they are reluctant to use it.

I'm certain this is a done deal. It was over an hour after the SD media reported Giles that it was picked up by the national media. Considering it's late on a Saturday night, I'm not surprised at the delays.

Has Hendry ever landed a top notch free agent? Sure there was Maddux on the downside of his career and a few bullpen guys, but Hendry's record with FA signings doesn't seem to be the best.

Maybe Dusty will realize how bad of a GM Hendry is and jump ship to LA before the season. The organization really seems to be clueless.

I suppose Hawkins was considered "top notch" when the Cubs signed him, but that's all I can think of.

I gave up on '06 long ago so this really doesn't bother me much. Do the Dodgers rank in the top 5 of most messed up organizations? They have to be close.

Wow you gave up on a year that hasn't even started a long time ago? You must be a sad puppy!

No, I just have faith in the ineptitude of the Cubs front office and managerial staff.

Yeah, I'm just thinking worst case scenario. Only 2 more seasons, at most, of his bs at the dish. Hopefully only 1 more season of Dusty the Clown and Hendry the Moran.

The story is sourced from someone "close to the negotiations." It's not Kinzer, it's not Furcal, it's not Coletti. It's someone else who didn't want to be quoted. I'm not saying it's not true, but there is reasonable suspicion at this point as to the veracity of the claim. Moreover, a google news search comes up only with the LA Times story with the one source, and a few spin-offs from that story. It could be bogus. It could be true. We'll have to wait and see.

For how much everyone complains about Hendry - he really is a significant upgrade over Ed "I'm a terrible GM" Lynch and Andy "Get me some mo' ex-Twins" MacPhail.

Not that we should be content, but it's a step forward. Possibly the next guy will be another step forward? Or, just maybe, when Dusty isn't here in 2007, we'll see how a well managed Hendry assembled team would fare? This isn't likely, but it's possible. And, if so, it's Hendry's fault for hiring/not firing toothpick mcgoo.

Hendry is just Dusty's enabler. Both are problems.
