Why would KC give up a promising cheap player for an older one year rental? I don't like this deal for either side.

Two organizations with no gameplan.

I wonder if the Cubs can expand this deal to include Matt Stairs who can back up lee and be the left hand bat off the bench.

Oh, can you imagine how angry dusty would be to see stairs out there clogging the bases?

These rumored deals make me angry. Nothing's wrong with MacDougle or Pierre. They are decent players. But it sickens me to see Hendry continually shoot for decent. He's going after role players when there are huge holes in the everyday lineup. Sure, it's nice to have great defense, middle relief, and a leadoff hitter. But it's better to have a true impact player when one is out there for the taking.

If that trade happend, could you imagine what Walker would have to say to the Chicago media on his way out? I have a feeling he wouldn't shy away from speaking his mind about the Cubs and about being traded to KC. :D

Who cares? He can take his, does only one thing good, to lowly KC. If it helps the Cubs I'm all for it. Depending on the prospect I like this deal. McDougal,Weurtz & Williamson setting up Dempster, that's a solid, & deep pen. Get er done, Jim!

if we can just do whatever we want to players and it doesn't matter, we really should've told maddux to go away for the last month and a half to keep his option from vesting.

also, you said get er done. dont do that.

GET ER DONE JIM!!!

oh boy

  :x

It looks like execution of deals in a vacuum to me - no gameplan. Its like Hendry makes up his mind that he is going to do certain things and come hell or high water, he's going to do them - with no thought to the big picture.

That's it. Hendry pulls this trade and I'm on the "Fire Jim" bandwagon.

Three good trades does not negate 3 straight years without any semblence of a plan. If we blow our chance with these 3 young starters and have only one playoff appearance to show for it before we lose one or more, Jim should be banned for life from the city of Chicago.

We could do far better for Walker and a prospect than MacDougal.

That is a part that scares me....the prospect.

There's no way it could possibly be better than like Leicester or someone like that.

I have many things crossed right now hoping you're right!

I would have hoped Hendry had learned to stay away from relievers with reverse splits. It'll be fun watching Dusty ignore the numbers and use MacDougal to try to get the crucial out against a tough RH bat.

Wow, trading a starting 2B with a good bat for an inconsistent reliever who isn't *that* young and won't close, AND throwing in a prospect to boot? These rumors are making me nauseous.

the key word in your statement:

rumor

Agreed. If the Cubs are giving up the BETTER player (and they are), the Cubs SHOULD be getting the prospect in return, and not the other way.

I'm truly sorry for Todd Walker if this deal is made. Hendry already agreed not to trade him without consent, and to send him to the baseball hell of KC would be an indefensibly jackass move on Hendry's part. If we're going to trade Todd, send him somewhere he wants to go and throw him in a package to get a big name like Abreu or Dunn.

Huh? Wasn't this just a rumor or supposition? That is unless you and Todd are close...

Right-hander Mike MacDougal's BAA:

for 2002-2004

vs. LH: .240

vs. RH: .292

for 2005

vs. LH: .240

vs. RH: .270

This is NOT the type of pitcher you want to give to Dusty Baker.

Why are we so interested in trading Walker? Assume for a minute that the Pierre trade is completed. It seems our best bet would be to then sign Brian Giles, keep Walker and Cedeno, instead of Furcal and have an everyday lineup of something like:

Pierre, CF

Giles, RF

Lee, 1B

Ramirez, 3B

Walker, 2B

Murton, LF

Barrett, C

Cedeno, SS

Seems like this lineup is better than spending money for Furcal if we already have Pierre. That doesn't really address this trade other than to say trading Walker for a mediocre reliever seems like a waste.

Well, Todd definitely asked not to be traded without consent (read it in a cubs.com interview earlier this year), and usually Hendry tries to maintain good working relationships with his players.

I'm done even looking at this board for the offseason. The inevitably of the following lineup is amazing:

Pierre, CF

Furcal, SS

Lee, 1B

Ramirez, 3B

J. Jones, RF

Barrett, C

Murton, LF

Cedeno/Perez, 2B

Mark it down now. I'm gonna go cry now.

Other than Jones in RF it doesn't look too bad to me.
