ND and BSU both lost in the last couple days. Close games at DePaul and at Ohio respectively. Long basketball season this year I fear. :(

Come root for Mizzou, make your season even longer.

Pfft, we Mizzou basketball fans have it best. Win, great, yay Mizzou. Lose, Quin comes closer to getting fired. Can't lose.

Haha good point. However, when a loss is to SAM HOUSTON STATE, you can't help but want to hurt small animals (or something similar).

True, but they looked great at both ends of the ball yesterday, did you see the game? If Jimmy McKinney decides that he's a baskeball player every game like he did against OSU, who knows what could happen with this conference.

I didn't get to see any of it, unfortunately. I saw Gardner was his usual self and its good the Jimmy McKinney we thought we recruited was there too. If they play like that all conference season long, I think we could sneak into the tournament. I still wish I could've seen highlights or something from last night though.

damn that was terrible performance. to answer an earlier question, Rich McBride is the worst player on the team. Nice game from one of our shooters. Seems like we always play poorly against Iowa, I don't understand how they can play us so well, yet struggle with much lesser teams.

You guys shot very poorly from the outside but then seemed to get really tentative in the second half. We were playing very good defense (as we have all year) but just got lucky with you guys missing some open looks in the first half. In the second half I thought our defense was better, but when Dee and others got looks they passed them up and had to scramble late in the shot clock to throw something up. Jamar Smith was the one guy who took the shot every time he got an open look and I was surprised at the ones he missed in the first half. I don't know if I've seen that guy miss this year when I've seen an Illinois game.

Taking Augustine out of the game was huge, he never really got involved. After he had that big dunk mid-way through the 2nd half I thought he was going to go on a tear but never did. Same thing with Dee when he knocked down that 3 early in the second half. I think everyone in the building thought he was going to get hot and take over after that shot but it never happened.

You guys looked a lot more one-dimensional offensively than last year but I also think you play much better defense than last year's team. Guys are just a lot quicker on switch outs, get up on you much closer and really gave us no open looks in the first half. It looks to me like Bruce has put a much bigger emphasis on defense this year.

Yeah Bruce has to concentrate more on defense this year because we don't have the same talent on offense.

iowa would have probably beaten us anyway, but fwiw, the officiating in that game was the worst i've ever seen in any game this year, so far.

every call favored iowa, every call.

Really can't complain about the Officiating, in my 25+ years of following the Illini and Big Ten BB, it's always been 8 on 5 when comes to road games. You've got to expect that going into to a road game and adjust, it's never going to change. IMO no other conference comes close in giving preferential treatment to the home team.

Conference Breakdown

ACC: #1(Duke), #15(BC), #18(NC St.), #20(NC), #23(MD)

SEC: #2(FL)

Big East: #3(Nova), #4(UConn), #10(Louisville), #12(Pitt), #16(West VA), #25(Cincy)

C-USA: #5 (Memphis)

West Coast: #6 (Gonzaga)

Big 10: #7 (Illinois), #9 (Indiana), #14(MSU), #19 (Ohio St.), #21 (Wisc.)

Big 12: #8 (Texas), #22 (OK)

PAC 10: #11 (UCLA), #13 (Wash), #24(AZ)

A-10: #17 (GW)

I hadn't realized just how down the SEC and Big 12 were until looking that over.

Newest Bracketology has

8 Big East: (Nova, UConn, Louisville, Pitt, West VA, Cincy, Syracuse, Marquette)

7 Big 10: (Illinois, MSU, Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio St., Michigan, Iowa)

6 ACC: (Duke, NC St., UNC, Maryland, Wake, BC)

4 Big 12: (Texas, OK, Colorado, Iowa St.)

4 Pac 10: (Washington, Washington St., AZ, UCLA)

4 SEC: (FL, Kentucky, Vandy, Tennesee)

3 C-USA: (Memphis, Houston, UAB)

3 MVC: (Creighton, N. Iowa, SIU)

2 A-10: (GW, Xavier)

2 Mountain West: (Air Force, Colorado St.)

2 WAC: (Nevada, Hawaii)

EDIT: Question regarding the Big East, why in the hell was S. Florida chosen instead of Memphis? I can't imagine it was academics, nor does geography really make much sense considering Louisville was already joining, and S. Florida is way further south than any other school in the Big East. Memphis's football program is also far superior to S. Florida's.

Every call? Come on.

Illinois was making themselves vulnerable to a lot of those calls by doing more grabbing. I would agree that Iowa got the advantage overall in calls, but that's not a rarity when you go on the road in the Big Ten. The Illini fans at Carver were getting worked up over some of the calls midway through in the second half, but overall they weren't outraged and certainly didn't feel the way you did.

Wow to Wazzou getting the nod over Cal. It won't be that way come March.

It was a football decision. Why since Memephis has a better program right now? S.Florida has the potential to be a very big player and when the Big East invited VTech they too were not that good but look at them now. Florida is a hot bed for talent and it also helps recruiting for the rest of the conference in that area.

I would like to see the BE add Memphis and move on to an all Sports conference while dropping the just basketball schools but the real problem is who would keep the Big East name.

Didn't S. Florida just join I-A football a few years back? I don't see FAU or FIU as having more promise than an Arkansas St. just because they're in Florida. I don't see Baylor as having a more promising future just because they're in Texas. It seems like a stretch to give the spot to a team that may have some more potential in football, and is a far worse basketball program.

USF crushed Louisville in football this year. Just crushed them. And before they lost to someone (I believe UConn) on the 2nd to last week of the college football year, they controlled their own destiny for the Big East's BCS berth. Their football team is not just on Memphis's level, they're probably better. The basketball thing...I don't know why they are in instead of Memphis. Maybe C-USA wasn't going to let them poach that many teams.

Another poor offensive showing by UK, 4 points in the 1st 9 minutes at home vs. Vandy. This team can't shoot and they take and miss more open shots than I've seen in quite some time.

Morris can't turn that around.

WOOT! Great effort to get a huge road win.

I just don't understand Mizzou. How can a team look so bad and then go into norman and win?

I didn't get to see their 3 cupcake games between Illinois and the conference opener, but they've turned it around for sure. They've played pretty good defense before and maintained that, better offensive flow, better effort, and someone in each game stepping up to help Gardner shoulder the load(McKinney against OSU, Brown against OU). Should be a fun environment to be in on Saturday, hopefully both teams take care of business so there can be some real fun on Monday.

Because they are a typical Mizzou team. This year's team has a lot of heart though, and since Linas left, they have become more of a TEAM than just a bunch of players. I look forward to the rest of the Big 12 season, I think they can make a big splash.
