gooney, you are straight out lying.

First of all, I would estimate the number of times a year that the roof starts out closed and is then opened at less than 5.

And here you go. Man, it's pretty easy to make you look so stupid.

Either make your point without the insults or don't make it at all.

From what I've heard, the standard in place is to close the roof above 80 degrees and open it if it's below that. Whether or not this was applied during the Cards series who knows, but in my humble opinion Bud should get the hell out of the way and quit screwing things up more than he already has.

The roof has been closed all through the playoffs. Grand Poohbah didn't step in during the Braves or Cardinals series. He needs to get out of the way now as well.

I may be wrong here, but isn't it the Astros decision for any and all games other than the World Series? I thought I read that the Commish has the say in World Series games but all other games are to be decided by the Astros.

My bad, just get upset when some one blatantly lies.

MLB already let Houston make their decisions when building the park. They screwed that up so royally that it's impossible to justify giving them anymore leeway. Houston was notorious for cheating mid game, timing the opening and closing of a roof with their half inning at the plate.

That ballpark is an abonimation. I've said it before and I'll say it again, MMP is probably the worst of the newer parks and if not for the domed stadiums (Skydome, Rollerdome, Tropicana), would be amongst the worst in all of baseball. It has all of the worst features of the modern mallpark (contrived, tacky, sterile) with none of its charms. I'm sure it holds its own when it comes to creature comforts, but aesthetically it is an affront to good taste. And don't get me started on the stupid hill. Whoever came up with that needs to be put away lest he infect the world with any more wonderful ideas.

I saw a statistic yesterday for the Astros home record with the Roof open and closed and both. I honestly don't remember the actual number, but I do remember there was about 50 games with it opened 25 games where it was closed and the remaining under 10 games when it was both opened and closed during a game.

And Jimy, instead of accusing goony of flat out lying, perhaps he is mistaken or being misinterpreted.

Making a ballpark have asymmetrical dimensions is ok. Even putting weird boxes of seats nailed to a wall is fine. But when you go as far as putting a hill in CF with an exposed flag pole in play, that is when you are trying waaay to hard to put quirky features in your park.

Geez, it's not like the umps haven't helped the Sox enough yet, now it's Selig's turn.

Maybe Bud feels bad about MLB taking away the Cubs home advantage in 84 and thinks this will help Chicago heal.

First of all, I would estimate the number of times a year that the roof starts out closed and is then opened at less than 5.

And here you go.

If the game begins with the roof closed:

(Toronto Only): It shall not be opened at any time during the game.

(Arizona, Houston, Milwaukee, Seattle): It may be opened when, in the opinion of the home club, the climatic environment has reached a level where fan comfort and enjoyment will be best served by opening the roof to the natural atmospheric conditions. Notwithstanding the foregoing, the following guidelines should be applied opening the roof during a game.

The roof may be opened only once during the game.

The Umpire Crew Chief will be notified at the commencement of the inning that the roof will be opened at the inning's conclusion.

The Umpire Crew Chief shall notify the visiting club, which may challenge the opening of the roof if it feels that a competitive imbalance will arise. In such an event, the Umpire Crew Chief shall make a final decision based on the merits of the challenge.

The opening of the roof shall only commence between innings.

Wow, you're really mature.

That decree doesn't mean a thing. They start opening it when Houston makes the final out of an inning (or shortly thereafter), it takes a pretty long time to open, meaning for the next half inning (when the away team is batting) it slowly moves. It's not open until Houston is up again next, giving them an extra half inning of open room batting.

Having the roof closed at MMP is like kicking the Bleacher Bums out. It's just not the same game. I've been mad at Bud before (For attempting to kick out my other favorite team, the Twins), and this probably won't be the last either.

Did anyone complain when the comish forced the diamondbacks to keep the roof open in the world series a few years ago? Look, if teams want to avoid this they should do one of 2 things:

1) Don't build a park with a dome.

2) Don't make the WS.

I think its funny the Astro players are worrying about this. It's pretty weak.

gotta hand it to selig. he's really laid down the law on two major issues in baseball -- open roofs and steroids. oh, wait....

Too bad he's powerless to remedy incompentent umpires.

He was nowhere to be found after Game 2 of the ALCS, glad he was available now

I'm so sick of the whining about the roof. How about playing some ball??!!

I'm a Cub fan, obviously, and pretty indifferent about the series. But this is a joke. The Stros make it seem like its unfair that the roof is open. Come on. Gimme a break. The point of a retractable roof is to deal with weather. NOT to give the home team an additional advantage. It's pretty damn clear that the reason the Stros want it closed so badly is to give them an additional advantage.

Just play ball. And Buck and McCarver should keep their mouths shut. Why is it that they feel so strongly about it?

home field advantage?

They already have home field advantage. They're playing the game in Texas, sleeping in their own beds, in front of their own fans. Not to mention the kooky dimensions of the park. The roof stuff I just view as whining. That's my personal opinion.

Houston should just leave it closed and say "woops, it's broken. Repairman can't get in till next Monday to fix it"

And then tell Bud Selig to "sit down, shut up and enjoy the game" or be escorted out of the building.

Selig may be the president of baseball (he is more of the Clown of Baseball), but that doesn't justify him OVERSTEPPING his boundaries, determine how a team can run it's day-to-day operations. I don't care what MLB says, if the Astros want it shut, there is nothing MLB could do to change it. But as something mention earlier, this has White Sox crying all over it.

The team with better pitching and better hitting will almost always win. Wow, that's pure genius isn't it?

The White Sox have better pitching, and better hitting, than the Astros. Doesn't matter what the Stros do-----they're going to lose the Series.
