It's now six games with both teams winning last night.

I don't think the Sox are going to choke this one away, even with their best efforts.

More interesting is that they just don't look all that great over the past month or so. They show the inconsistencies of a .500 club. If I were a Sox fan, THAT is what would worry me.

I'd say that in all honestly, the White Sox are closer to qualifying as a .500 team, as opposed to the best team in the AL.

Cleveland won, so now the Sox lead is down to five games, with 18 to play (for the Sox). 16 games left for the Indians. Six of them head-to-head. This is really getting interesting.

I feel like I'm leading a death march....

HOORAY CLEVELAND!

I'm rooting for those guys in the playoffs. And it'll be extra sweet if they take the Sox out in the process. What this is showing, though, is that even if/when the Sox make it to the playoffs, they aren't on the same level as teams like the Red Sox, Indians, Angels.

Their perceived strengths (starting pitching) are really starting to falter. I wonder if there's been issues of overwork with Buehrle and Garcia. I remember Buehrle's ridiculously stupid consecutive games going 6 or more innings, and I'm wondering if its catching up with him. Cleveland might be the most balanced (and best) team for the postseason.

They have possibly the best 1-4 starters.

Second best lineup to the Red Sox

Best Bullpen

Coming in extremely hot.

I really hope they make it, because they could make October, for me anyway, a fun one to watch.

Royals win again, 7-5 (despite Andy Sisco's attempts to blow the lead - this was my first time watching Sisco pitch). Cleveland has the day off, so the Sox lead is trimmed to 4.5 games.

If the Sox blow that lead....I'm going to laugh for days.

We'll be able to make fun of them for years. Sweet, sweet revenge.

White Sox fans have officially hit the panic button.

As every non-White Sox fan has been saying, they simply are not a good team. Their offense is nothing special and they had guys who were pitching waaaaaaaaaay over their heads. This launched them to their memorable first half record.

But now, the wheels are starting to come flying off. When their pitching falters, they don't have the guys needed to drive in a bunch of runs per game on a consistent basis. And, to make matters worse, their bullpen isn't exactly sunshine and roses at the moment, either.

Even if they make the playoffs (which is still fairly likely), I predict they get swept in the first round.

I listened to a Royals game on the radio today.

They had a one man booth. He wasn't particularly good. But the Sox' misery made it great.

One guy I work with who is a Sox fan is a pretty nice guy, and I actually feel a little empathetic toward him. He's been nervous for the past six weeks - watching it happen. Another guy there is one of those abrasive Cub-hating Sox fans, and I am just smiling at him every day. :P

Yeah, I think that if the Indians would happen to get into the playoffs we can make some noise. Well, I don't forsee a 3-and-out. It would be a dream come true to see the Sox collapse.

In these last 16 games, the Indians get the Sox 6 times, and the Royals 7 times. :)

I just looked at both schedules. As you said, the Sox and Indians go head to head 6 times. On those 7 days the Indians play the Royals, the Sox play the Twins.

That leaves one other series- Sox have the Tigers and Indians have the Devil Rays.

This could certainly come down to the last weekend.

you guys are mean

i went to a sox-a's game over the summer and everyone was really nice (except for one dude, but me and my sister WERE fully dressed in a's gear at a game in which the a's came from behind and won in extra innings). i dont think i really hate the sox or their fans much at all.

Try wearing Cubs gear to the Cell and see how the situation changes. Of course, you might just have sitting in the midst of some nice people, but I have been to several games at the Cell, and my experiences have been less than ideal.

I know exactly what you mean XZero77. I was truly concerned for my safety during a recent confrontation (btw sox/cub fans at the cell block). I was not even involved, but it was kind of ugly.

I think you really have to live in the Chicago area to understand the true obnoxiousness that is the average Sox fan.

you're probably right, and maybe my hometown is an outlier or something, but i don't think many people from chicago understand the true obnoxiousness that is the average Cardinal fan.

OR MAYBE all fans are obnoxious to fans of rival teams. i read an a's website, and boy do they ever hate giants fans.

You're kidding. A's fans who hate Giants fans? I didn't know they existed! :o

(Ever A's fan I know has at least a bit of Giants fan in them [and vice versa]).

I agree, but I know a bunch of Dodger fans that absolutely loath the Giants. But I guess that's a given.

I think we do. A lot of us Cubs fans from Chicago went to colleges downstate and were subjected to the "World's greatest fans."

Hating obnoxious Red Birds fans is different than hating insecure, bitter Sox fans - but equally justifiable.

Im with you Voice. Coming to Columbia, Missouri, I have to deal with their arrogance every single day. I've told them all that I can't wait for the season the Cardinals only win 65 games. Then again, I really am hoping the Indians take the division.
