In his Insider column today (which mainly deals with the A's resurgence, ironically noting that players w/ high OBPs have become too expensive for them), Gammons notes that Hendry thinks that CPatt has "turned the corner" down in AAA. When asked about trading Cory, he replied that everyone assumed they would deal him, but they aren't, at least (direct quote) "not now." :-k

Gammons also notes that we acquired Gerut as an alternative to getting Preston Wilson, and that Hendry thinks that we'll have both Williamson and Nomar back by the end of the month. :D

I'm not going to hold my breath for Williamson coming back this season. As for Nomar, I hope he comes back soon since watching Neifi really makes me grimace the lower his OBP goes.

What I highlighted in bold is the comment that I just don't fathom at all! You mean to tell me that Corey can't "get it together" at the big league level for more than half a season with the coaches, equipment, films, training areas he has access to up here, but he can go down to AAA for a couple weeks and all of a sudden he's a different ballplayer???

I'm sorry Jim (Hendry), but that doesn't speak very highly of your big league coahces being able to do their jobs, and it doesn't say much about how Corey reacts to pressure if the lack of it is what "changed" him.

I don't know, personally I think that comment has to be a smokescreen to drive up Corey's value (from very little right now I would guess).

If it's true, I sure would like to know how and why Corey couldn't "turn the corner" when he was in Chicago.

I agree with Jim. Corey's turned the corner. He's lighting up AAA to the tune of .261 in six games. Bring him back!

Or something.

Maybe playing in front of crouds of 6 to 8 thousand. AAA travel, having to handle your own luggage, almost none of the things you get used to as perks in the Majors. Maybe, just maybe, there were some things said in that meeting that finally let C Patt know that patience with him had worn thin. Maybe Patterson has finally figured out, organisational golden boy or not, they wont allow another Sosa to develop in attitude department.

Maybe not getting booed for breathing let him back off and worry about the game?

My brother was at the I-Cubs game last night and said Patterson was being booed after making a couple of outs. He said he was swinging at pitches early in the count. If you are getting booed at a AAA game, I think there is no choice but to move to a different organization. I for one, like Corey, but know he has a lot to improve on. I think he will be a good major league ball player, but I don't think it will be with the Cubs.

Well, Hendry would probably say good things about Corey in AAA whether he means it or not, so I don't read much into that statement.

But whatever. They can trade him as far as I'm concerned, I've given up on him.

Can we trade the fans instead?

I'd also be willing to eat their salary.

We should include them in the trade for Dunn. The Reds need fans anyways.

i've been to three games in des moines since he's been there, and the fans have been overly enthusiastic in their support for him. he gets by far the biggest ovation, and they cheer everything he does. i'm not saying that you're wrong, i'm just passing on what i've seen in the past week.

When he told me, I was shocked that they would boo him. Normally, when any major league guys is down here, they give him a standing ovation. I guess the fans in Des Moines are just as frustrated watching him swing at pitches early in the count he can't handle, as the fans that were at Wrigley. I don't know where he was sitting, and it may have been a small section near him, but he said there was some booing. Like I said, I don't know too much more about it.

i don't understand why people continue to assume that patterson's attitude sucks. macias is a terrible player, does that mean his attitude is bad? you can be struggling on the field and not be a jerk.

fyi, patterson has signed autographs at all three i-cub games i've been to in the past week. so, not only is he the best signed on the big league club, but he's the best signer on the AAA squad as well.

That's cool if you don't think Williamson will be back this season, however, he made a AAA appearance tonight, went an inning, no hits, no walks, 2 Ks....

He'll be back by the end of the month, I'm almost positive. He'd need a week, maybe week and a half to get back to form...that's about it. He'll be here.

I too have been to a couple of the I-Cubs games since he's been back (I'm still pissed about Dubois leaving), and I haven't heard any booing. It must have been an isolated section or two (I usually sit in the LF GA picnic section so I don't hear much anyway).

I am not thrilled with the swinging early in the counts and how he still appears to be swinging for extra bases.

Um...er...

Hasn't cut his swing down to put the ball in play, is what I meant. He's still trying to pound the ball.

he's not juan pierre, as much as some people would like him to be. i'd rather have him 'trying to pound the ball' than have him check swinging and slapping at the ball just trying to avoid a strikeout.

if he's only trying for homers, fine, maybe that's a problem. but trying to hit hard line drives for doubles is pretty much the point of hitting.

Corey tried that slappy nonsense this year with the Cubs and that's what's got him demoted to AAA.

With all due respect, total lack of pitch recognition is what got him demoted. He swung at garbage when he tried to slap the ball, he swung at garbage when he didn't.
