It's a move they had to make. To be able to rush 4 and generate pressure is the name of the game.

I know everyone wants Wright back (for a 7th I would too) but he would be the 5th/6th best CB in the roster. His coverage skills were terrible and lucked his way into those TOs. His size is his greatest asset.

Simmons will make the secondary better not Wright.

Sweat and Johnson should have no more excuses for their poor performance for the remainder of the season..

I've never been a Poles guy but I like this trade and hopefully this trade works as well as the Panthers trade did.

Nobody’s worse than JJ. Wright’s not good but he’s an improvement and for some reason played his best football in DA’s scheme. I’d love him back, but with tempered expectations.

We are in “warm bodies” mode in the secondary. If nothing else Wright is plug-and-play and that’s got value in and of itself. It’s not a matter of JJ needing excuses. He’s bad. His speed is gone. It’s not coming back.

Yes, he's gone from workable slow to unworkable glacial slow, I'm certain there's someone younger and faster the Bears can find off the street.

At least have Wright there to push Jaylon. It’s one thing for Jaylon to be slow, but his effort is brutal also.

I really believe it's his slowness and body unwilling that's exaggerating the effort or lack of.

I wonder if Harbaugh would even trade Mack to the bears without a massive overpay because of his history with Kevin Warren.

I hadn’t considered that. You could be right.

Poles sure doesn't sound like he's gonna go out and make another trade.

Bro, if you’re going all-in then go all-in.

He said he'd listen, but also given what they spent on this, he doesn't want to go throwing around picks either.

Harbaugh isn't the Chargers GM and is probably on the hot seat right now.  But even still, if that's an issue, even more reason to cut the dead weight that is Kevin Warren.

Sure, but he signed for a 5/$80 deal so it’s possible that the power dynamic is different than your typical coach/gm duo.

I don't think Harbaugh is on the hot seat at all.  He has a history of winning wherever he goes, and I don't see the team eating his remaining contract.  Plus, his O-line has been in shambles due to injury for years running.  If anyone takes the fall, it's going to be the OC.

There's a fair chance that the Bears think Mack has fallen off enough that he's not worth a pick. With Gordon back they are getting some additional pressure. I'm just speculating but that could be part of the calculation as well.

When you make a trade like Jeffrey Simmons, you are telling the rest of the league that you are being aggressive. I think downplaying the possibility of another trade is Poles trying to keep some leverage and protect the Bears from price gauging by other teams.

Meet Jeffery Simmons:

He said he hasn't played in a primetime game since 2023. 😮

Really like the idea of generating pressure only rushing 4, with Simmons it's now a possibility.  Pressure, most especially in divisional games, is crucial.  Goff and Love aren't the most mobile of QB's nor do they succeed off schedule, get to them, mistakes will happen, Johnson and Stevenson will be less exposed, good all around.

Simmons joining the D-Line and Sweat returning from suspension and TJ Edwards coming back from injury. Mack isn't getting traded to the Bears before Monday, so we will see where we are. I have no idea how well/poorly Shemar Turner played last week, but maybe he'll turn into something?

How many snaps is Trapilo up to? I keep seeing Benedet in there, so not sure how slowly they are bringing Trapilo back into the fold.

Apparently Benedet has been playing pretty well.  Allowing 6 pressures the last 3 games, run blocking has been good.

Appears 99 is not retired, why wouldn't it be 99?  I was surprised to find 99 - Dan Hampton - was not retired.  My bad, thought he was 99 in Tennessee, it's 98, I'm old.

Gervon Dexter wore 99 until 2 months ago. And also the 3 full seasons before that. It's been worn every year but 2 since Hampton retired
