This team is mired in mediocrity. And unfortunately it looks like its going to stay that way. Most fans seem content with this half ass product.

Still boggles my mind how fans had ranked this FO one of the best in the league and were happy with his extension. While the gm polls had them ranked near the bottom. Ricketts and Jed can suck my ass

I love how anything can happen in the playoffs. We all had concerns over the slumping offense, pitching and playing the red hot Padres on their home turf. We probably all expected them to lose 5-1 but because of variance, it was an 8-0 loss instead with 3 total hits. You just never know with how random baseball is.

Last night was the final game as Cub for Boyd and that's a good thing.  Bad thing is Jed will sign another guy very similar to him.

Not mediocre, above average. Think of the 2000-2012 Whitesox with the goal of catching lightening in a bottle with their own version of a 2005 fluke WS win.

Boyd isn’t a problem. Boyd being your game 1 starter in a best of 3 is the problem, and it wouldn’t have mattered who was on the mound anyways with the offense deciding to face plant a week before the playoffs.

Because gen-pop Cubs fans are the dumbest motherfukkas on the planet, they are all turning against PCA this morning

Don't have the slightest clue about baseball, do they?

At least he’s earned lofty expectations. Happ was the previous scapegoat despite being a complimentary bag with unrealistic expectations of carrying an offense.

This is spot on.

Collectively one of the dumbest fan bases in baseball.

Passionate, loyal but dumb.

Hard for me to be super upset honestly. My expectations for this team nose dived once Horton's elbow exploded and it was clear we were never going to see Steele again. Ive been numb for a while.

I really didn’t have any expectations of winning this series . Padres are on fire and the Cubs forgot how to play baseball the week before the playoffs .

I turned the game off after the Machado HR in the 1st . So glad I did . Got some good sleep while the game was going on .

Another horsefeathers show is coming tonight and that’s the end of that . Bring on the lockout !

Im gonna choose to believe tonight and whatever happens happens. Hopefully, Guasman throws a gem and the bsts do what theyve done all season. Pivetta hasnt had a blowup yet since coming back. Hes due.

I think Cubs get out to an early lead with 2 runs in the first. Gausman will give up 2 right back. Stays tied til the 6th then Padres get the lead and Cubs bats stay asleep.

They booed Montero in his return to Wrigley, the guy with an insurance RBI single in game 7 in the 10th inning and a grandslam in game 1 of the LCS, gave Theriot a standing ovation as a cardinal after telling the media he’s on the “right side of the rivalry”, gave mediocre slap hitter Ryan Theriot a standing ovation and if I remembercorrectly Arramis Ramirez had a few claps as a Brewer in 2012. My favorite was the third most requested autograph at cubs con in 2017 was not Lester, Arrietta, Baez, Zobrist etc. David Ross.

The list goes on.

We need August Breggy and PCA to show up tonight and hopefully tomorrow.

Bats need to set the tone early otherwise it’ll be more of the same from last night.

This is correct.  I like Boyd, and I wouldn't mind him being back next year if he's the #4 starter, but this is now two years in a row where he has been forced to start critical playoff games.  This pitching staff simply isn't constructed to win in the postseason.  Part of that is injuries, but that excuse only goes so far.  Steele was a big question mark going into the season and if the Cubs were counting on him as a TOR starter then that was a mistake.  Brown was a great story early in the season, but again he is not a guy who has ever shown that he can be counted on to take the ball every fifth day.  Horton was a big loss and that definitely impacted the team, but even with Horton in the rotation, they still wouldn't have enough.  And that isn't even getting into the bullpen.

Jed built a pitching staff that was dependent on everything going right, which is almost never the case.  And then he went out and traded legitimate assets at the deadline to try to patch some of the holes.  Maybe Gausman goes out and shoves tonight and helps to extend the season, but dealing Rojas for Holmes appears to have been a big miss.  People will say, "Rojas was blocked in Chicago anyway", which is absolutely true, but the Cubs need to start turning guys like that into actual contributors.  The farm system is thin enough as it is, and dealing the likes of Caissie and Rojas for Cabrera and Holmes just digs that hole deeper.  The Cubs go into next year with zero starters they can count on in the rotation.  Does anyone really trust Jed to properly address that?
