Bears Week 2: vs Vikings 1pm on CBS

Well game one went about as expected even if results were more exaggerated than predicted. The offense is a potent mix and the defense is an impotent sieve 

 

the Bears are a 5.5 point home favorite in a divisional matchup, which might be the biggest spread as divisional favorite in many years (or maybe not).

The Bears scored 59 points in week 1 and weren't even the most efficient offense of the week (the Giants, who somehow ground the game to a crawl that featured only 6 possessions per team)

It’ll be interesting to see what the Carson Wentz Vikings can do against this defense. It’ll be a very Movable Object vs Stoppable Force

i expect the Bears offense to put up 35+ of course

I think the Bears will do relatively well against Jefferson, but I also think it's Addison that's going to tear up this defense. God knows Tyrique and Jaylon aren't going to be able to keep up with him.

The Packers have a crummy defense without Micah, and they still held the Vikings to 239 yards of total offense.  The Vikings are going to need a lot more than that to keep up with the Bears.

As a result of TO's didn't the Vikings have very short fields on their last two scores?  It'll help if the Bears can get to Wentz, he'll turn the ball over under pressure.

On one hand, I'm concerned about the Vikings rush, though it was helped by inexperienced Packers' OL and a relatively immobile Love.  On the other hand, because of Caleb' mobility the Vikings won't be able to sell out and they left the middle of field wide open.  Could mean a big day for Raymond, Kmet or Loveland.

There were so many free runners in the middle downfield for the Packers yesterday.  I'll be surprised if the Vikings take the same tact against the Bears with their better offensive line and more weapons.

I just.... I just can't imagine Carson Wentz doing what he did yesterday again. Maybe I should. Maybe our defense is just so porous and Kevin O'Connell and the Vikings skill position players are so good that it doesn't matter. Maybe Carson Wentz has 37 points in him against us. 

But I just. I can't see it, even though there are very good reasons to think they can be a problem. I just see the Bears romping.

The Chicago forecast has rain in it every day from tomorrow until the game.  There could be some sloppy conditions to deal with.  

Good thing we can run the horsefeathers out of the ball, and I thought the D played alright against the run in Carolina.  I saw some of Minnesota week 1 and Carson was playing on a knife's edge a bit.  Given that the game will be outside and in possibly imperfect conditions, I think the Bears roll.

Me neither, for all our blustering about Byrce Young' not so-goodness, he's far more mobile than Wentz.  The Bears pressured Young, they get to Wentz behind a lesser OL.

Flores' exotic blitzes are concerning, though, if they try do the same things as they did the Packers to the Bears.  They're going to get blown out.

He also got bailed out by a bogus roughing the passer penalty that would have turned into a 4th down and a phantom hold in the end zone on an interception, so he was far from perfect yesterday and as others have mentioned, not nearly as mobile as Young so the Bears have a better shot at getting to him with the pass rush.  And that's before we even get to the 2 short fields they got at the end of the game to put things out of reach.

Zavion Thomas might get turned loose on the Viking defense if they decide to blitz like crazy, as per usual. The Bears have blitz busters up and down the line up and Ben will be game planning exactly that. They have guys who they can hit on quick routes, and they have guys who can run right past the Vikings DB's. Pick a spot and let the receiver run to that spot.

Minnesota only had 17 points going into the 4th quarter. It was the two fumbles and interception that allowed them to put up 22 points in 12 minutes.

They were showing a graphic in the Minny game where Favre and Rodgers both won MVP's in their 7th season and Love is in his 7th year and that their overall numbers at that point were pretty similar. Love isn't winning an MVP with the current QB crop he has to go against. 

Remember the days when everyone was mad that Washington got Dan Quinn and the Bears got Eberflus and the Bears drafted Caleb instead of Jayden Daniels? Daniels looked sooooo pedestrian yesterday. Eberflus' failures led to Ben, and it's because of Caleb that he wanted to be Bear. We all know the history, but it's kind of fun looking at how all of the pieces fell into place. And once again, a huge wet kiss for Lovie Smith for making all of this possible.

I just watched the Tim Jenkins play breakdowns, and he didn't point it out until late, but I have to give monster recognition to Swift and Monangai for their outstanding blocking on passing downs. They picked up blitzing players from the opposite side of where they lined up, which helped make a lot of those great plays happen. If Minnesota is watching tape this week, they may want to tone down their blitz plays, even though that's really what makes their defense thrive. The blocking was top notch throughout that game.

I noticed as well, Monangai almost pancaked the blitzer on a play, just knocked his ass out of the way.
