Back even with the Phillies....

Whitesox are in trouble,  only half game up on Cleveland with big series with them starting tomorrow,  and just 1 1/2 up on Toronto for last WC spot, Toronto plays Detroit. Sox can be outside looking in by Wednesday

We are in trouble as well, bit of a weird thing to do focusing on an AL team blowing it while we are doing the same

Honestly, I don't believe the Cubs are ever going to win another Boyd start.  Something always goes awry, Craig keeping him for one batter too many, bullpen blow ups, etc.  Just concede a loss when Boyd starts.

How are we in trouble? We haven’t clinched anything but the worst we can be is 4 games ahead of a playoff spot (with another team between us and another team tied with us) with 12 to play.  They woke up today with 99.1% playoff odds. Not certain but we’re in a great spot

The teams chasing are playing much better and have easier schedules remaining. Cubs floor is in the center of the earth with the lack of major league pitching.

If we didn't have the tiebreaker on all three teams I'd be worried.  Plus the Diamondbacks and Padres having to play each other

Also the DBacks are down 5-1 so good chance they’re 5 up with 12 to play (4 up and the tiebreaker)

The Cubs, Dbacks and Padres all have Miami to play. The Dbacks have the Yankees and SD, the Padres have the Dodgers and Arizona. How is that easier than the Cubs. Cubs have Boston in Boston, where they are 37-37 and the Braves in Chicago , where the Braves are 1 game over .500 on the road. Cubs have Cincy, Dbacks and Padres both have Colorado. I wouldn’t call their schedules easier. I also wouldn’t say the Dbacks are playing better.
As for the Phillies they have Milwaukee and TB left along with on the road against Nats and Mets. I wouldn’t say anyone schedule is much easier than anyone else’s. And Phillies aren’t playing any better than the Cubs either. Only SD is playing well right now.

He only has 2 more starts, Cincinnati and Boston.

Be interesting to see which two they go with after Holmes in WC round, between Gausman Boyd and Imanaga

This team hasn’t won by either a blowout or a 1 run game (besides that 7-5 extra innings win against the Whitesox) in 4 weeks. It’s okay to win by a conventional 6-3 score.

I'd really like to see Boyd snap his losing streak going into the WC round.  It'd be good for him and, of course, the Cubs.

Last year Game 3 seemed to be an "all hands on deck" bullpen game.  That doesn't help us though with our pen LOL, so somebody could get a legit start and be left in as long as they're effective but maybe pulled a bit early to avoid 3rd time through the order.

Hard to play matchups since all 3 SP are LHP.  Though Civale has been one of our best pitchers.

I absolutely could see something using Boyd, Civale, Peterson, Assad and/or Imanaga in game 3, if there is a game 3. If the game is in Wrigley and it is against the Phillies, I can even see Imanaga getting the start, if the wind is blowing in. Honestly, I don’t think Craig has a plan yet, since we really have no idea who they are playing and where they are playing. Could be Phillies, Padres or even Braves. Aside from Holmes being one of the first two starters, I really don’t know how he plays it.

If a game 3, i can see Assad and or Civale playing a big role in it, and coming in after the starter.
