Literally the first runs he’s allowed since early June

I know, was just in frustration hence the annoyance rolling eyes emoji, it was posted above about Webb being the only reliever in circle of trust.

I hear ya, frustrating time. This is baseball in a nutshell. Streaks and slumps for most teams that aren’t based in SE Wisconsin

I get it.  You don't want to let the runner advance to 2nd.

The problem was he has the ball in his hand in shallow right just as the runner was touching third base. You try to end the game.

Why is it always “lmao”? I just don’t get you. Are you a fan? Why is this funny to you? Personally I think it sucks.

Because its so frustrating and stupid with this team, that all you can do to save your sanity is laugh it off, because of course they found a way to lose a lead or game. Usually its by giving up a homerun of course.

Barring a epic collapse by the Brewers (LOL, I know), I think the division is pretty much done. I mean you work hard enough to get within 3 games of the Brewers in then in short order you drop four games in the standings. That's something Cubs.

This conversation isn’t happening if scrub Leo Rivas makes the third out for the second game in a row which is the most aggravating part of this.

Being single handedly beat by a 3 run homer and Arozarena having the game of his life bugs the horsefeathers out of me, in addition to Rivas having his Victor Diaz/Craig Brazil moments.

Taylor doesnt seem to be to bright honestly. Ok player but he makes a lot of mistakes

He made the right play.  In a situation like that, you don't let the tying run get into scoring position.

I dont have any real winning expectations for this team, theyll probably make the playoffs outside of a collapse in September, but I dont expect them to do much.

This team despite being 18 over 500, just have too many negatives going for them as a whole.

Why? They are 18 over .500 with a run differential of 98. Why can’t they win? How many more negatives do they have than any other good team. I have heard about the Phillies as if they are better than the Cubs. They have given up the same amount of runs and scored far fewer. So they obviously have negatives too. If a team 18 over with the run differential the Cubs have still gives you low expectations, what does it take to have high expectations? They are an elite defense and top offensive team. They added pitching at the TDL and have guys coming back from injuries. Why shouldn’t they be very good? Now, I agree, even very good doesn’t mean they win the WS. They probably have a 5% to 10% of that happening. Of course teams like the Dodgers, Braves, Rays and Brewers will have better odds at winning. But that is because 3 of them won’t have to play in the WC round. And most likely the Cubs won’t win the WS. Again, only 1 team can win. But that doesn’t mean they didn’t put a good team on the rules and that they don’t have a chance. I feel you negative stance is just a perfect setup for coming on later, when the Cubs do get eliminated, to say I told you they weren’t good enough. But any fan of any team can do that and be right 29/30 times. Even if/when they lose, it doesn’t mean they weren’t built to win the WS. They are, but so are other teams. Someone has to lose. Last year they had no pitching going into the playoffs, yet somehow beat the Padres and then took the Brewers to game 5. This time instead of staring Pomeranz maybe the start Holmes. Instead of following Pomeranz with Rea, maybe Brown comes in. Instead of having weakass Tucker up in a key spot, when he ducked the entire second half, they have Bregman up. I’m. It arguing that they will win. That would be foolish. I am arguing that they can win. And suggesting otherwise is just a default response to be able to then say “oh well, I said that would happen anyway”.

7 against the Brewers has moved from "we can pass them" to "they can absolutely bury us"

Barring 6-1 or better in those games I think we're buried anyway

Yep, not winning the division. Still work to do in order to become WC1. That should be the goal. Deal with the brewers after winning the WC round.

I get what youre saying, and that probably the only hope they have and hopefully is Counsell plan. is to add Rea, Brown, etc.. pitchers that can go 3-4 innings in the bullpen, and then hope to get a solid 4 from their SP and then follow up with another starter to get 3-4 innings.

Problem will be hoping these pitchers wont be giving up multiple runs, cause they all aren't the most reliable starters.

Then, the Jeckyll and Hyde bats...

It like every other week these guys go through a handful of games where they look like they can't do anything against good or bad pitchers.

Phillies have 3 solid starters, Dbacks have 3 solid starters, Dodgers have 3 solid starters if Ohtani pitches, Braves have 2 really good starters, Brewers have Mis., and Padres have King.

So, its not going to be easy for the bats to help out the pitching if they're giving up those 4+ runs.

There's no see i told you so with this team because everyone can see that this team dont have the "pitching" or that stopper SP that can carry a team through the postseason.

They have a good shot at getting through the WC round if they can hold onto the 1 seed, but the only real hope for this team to get through Division round or further is for these pitchers to pitch way over what theyve been doing all season and pretty much everyone in the lineup are hitting.

I'd  rather be told to hand in my 2026 fan card and see these guys get to the WS, then be one of many that dont see this team with enough good pitching to get to the NLCS

If we win the 1st WC slot I think we face the 2nd WC slot in the best of 3 round, which today would be the Phillies.  They have some excellent SP but the lineup and defense are just so-so.

I'd think our SP would be Gausman, Holmes, and then a bullpen game, maybe Shota or whomever is pitching best gets the first 2-3 innings.

I don’t think the Dbacks have any pitcher any more likely to pitch a good game the pitchers the Cubs have. As for the Phillies, I agree their top 3 are rough. But their offense is nothing special, their defense is poor and even with those pitches they have given up as many runs as the Cubs. I also don’t feel King is any more likely to pitch well in a game than a Cubs starter. Braves have Sale and the Brewers have Mis. But worse rotations than the Cubs have won WS. A solid starter just has to have a good game. I think Gausman, Holmes and even Boyd are solid pitchers. I think if Brown comes back he can be very good. I just don’t see it as a foregone conclusion they can’t win. It is easy to take you view now when they are playing poorly. It is also easy to see team flaws when you watch them everyday. I am sure if you(by you, I mean all of us) watched other teams as much you would find flaws with them. Don’t misunderstand me. I am not suggesting the Cubs are going to win the WS. I am saying they are a good team who can win. Most likely, they won’t.
