Can I also be the guy starting a new thread about benching a guy after winning our fifth game in a row, three of which were over the dodgers. I definitely enjoy baseball

He is literally 0 for August. He would make a good late inning defensive replacement but he isn't hitting a lick now from either side of the plate.

I love Happ but his body language tells me as soon as he gets to the plate he ain't hitting anything.  I feel so bad for him.  I think JD said it best, he's rolling out of bed down 0-2 in the count.  Maybe a good two game rest can re-set him, cause it's really bad right now.

He just sat for 2 games against the Dodgers

But came back in when the right handed reliever came in both games.  I'm saying sit two games complete,  not part of two games.  He ain't hitting left handed lately either.

We'll see soon enough if his homer marks the end of a slump or is just a blip.

His first at bat was right in line with all his at bats the last week or so, he looked nowhere close to getting a hit.

The second at bat was in my memory the first hard contact he'd gotten in about a week.  I was so happy for him getting the home run and double.  He has long been on the extreme hot and cold streaks his hold career.  I hope this season ends with one of those hot streaks.  But he has never hit as bad right handed as he has this year.

Happ had a 105 wRC+ a year ago from today. He’s currently at 104. His K% is up and his xWOBA is significantly down FWIW but I’m sure someone has an explanation for that.

History says it won’t be a blimp.

The Ks are a concern, and the pretty much complete collapse against LHP is troubling and they did the right thing in getting someone else to soak up those at bats.

he has a 126 wRC v RHP and plays maybe the best LF defense in baseball. Here are the cubs numbers against RHP for guys with at least 50 PAs. What’s the alternative plan here

No alternative plan. You play Happ for sure against right handed pitching. Now we just have to hope he gets on one of his hot streaks.

Where can you sort platoon splits by month?

Fangraphs splits tools will allow you to sort splits by date. Just create a custom start and end date for what month you'd like.

You can find that on any player page on FanGraphs. Should be on the left side. It's not under the normal splits tab, so it's easy to miss if you aren't looking for it.

Found it. Thanks. Happ had a 102 through the end of April and since May he’s posted a 10 wRC+ versus lefties. Wow.

My takeaway from that chart: Seiya is freaking awesome.

Craig is in love with the L-R-L-R batting order, and Happ being a switchbatter makes him appealing in the middle of the order (to Craig, anyway).  I would give him the ol' Dansby treatment and drop him to 8th or 9th.

He should not face another lefty all year.

Maybe try hitting all pitchers left handed. 10 wRC+ vs lefties is beyond brutal.

It's usually chibear starts complaining about Happ, right before he starts hitting.  I like him a lot.😁

Lol...

Hes had 4 mini streaks since the beginning of June that was between 2-6 games before falling off again,  so although we love seeing him go off, im gonna wait to see if he could at least continue to have a heart beat at the plate for another week before thinking hes over being a stick figure at the plate.🙂

He needs 7 more HR to reach 200, would love to see him do it this season as a cubs

Agreed, this streak needs to be more like the rest of the month rather than 2-6 games - but the contact in these last two games was welcome because he was having trouble even foul tipping balls in the couple of weeks prior.
