Random thought, and this might be a reach but - 

If the Cubs went out to get a platoon for Ian Happ, and he's now a L/R dependent hitter (according to the Cubs FO), isn't that a strong piece of evidence that they aren't going to extend him?  Given his down-ish year and the recent move, it seems like this will be his last season in Chicago.

i definitely they would strongly lean seiya if they're going to resign someone

Not necessarily. In fact, it might make Ian Happ more likely to extend, just on a one-year. His swing against LHP is bad right now which lowers his value. He's still hitting RHP and that's the strong side of a platoon, he's not nothing and you can point to him being physically fine (if he was bad against everyone you'd be far more worried).

But if the Cubs think a winter's worth of time will work on the right-handed swing to get it back to where it was, and Ian Happ thinks that a one year deal will get his market back to a better place, I think a one-year deal makes sense for both sides.

I don’t think they will extend him but I do think they will offer him a QO. If he signs it then he is here another year. I would think they want at least a draft pick for him and would take that chance he didn’t sign the QO. And if he did sign it, I think they would be ok with that too.

I'd be happy with Happ back on a 1-year deal or QO.  That bat still plays against RHP.  And gives Pedro one more year to get the hang of LF and major league hitting.

Shota is still listed for tomorrow so I assume Peterson against the Blue Jays

He was pretty broken up about the trade, and was crying saying goodbye. Not to the point where I think he regrets it or anything, but it was hard for him to leave that team in some regards. 

Just my guess, I think the Cubs are doing him a solid by not asking him to throw against his former team, especially so fast.

I remember the only game Sutcliff lost for the Cubs in '84 was his first trip back to Dodger Stadium.
