If the Angels ask for Rojas and Adyers in a Detmers package ? Yes or no ?

I'm going to say no for both of those prospects. Now, if you want to say Ayers for Detmers straight up, then I'll say yes to that.

The team that should go to a full sell mode will be the Miami Marlins. They're currently on a 11 game losing streak. So, if we're giving away Rojas and Ayers (let's just say those players), then I'm asking Miami for Sandy Alcantara over Detmers. We've seen what Alcantara can do, and he has shown flashes that he can do it. He goes deep into ball games. The stuff, to me, is still there.

For Detmers, it's a lot similar to trading Cease/Eloy for Quintana. We're hoping Quintana, an average pitcher at the time for the White Sox, can turn it around for the Cubs. He never did, and ended up having an average, yet long, career.

I know Alcantara had a rough patch in June, but he has around a 3.4ish ERA in April, July, and August. The K's aren't as high as in CY dominating years 2-3 years ago, but it's still a good respectable rate.

Detmers is going to cost more than Rojas and Ayers, even with add-ons like Kepley and Wing. He's a LHP SP with multiple years of team control.  He's going to cost more than Cabrera did this offseason

Mead’s finally starting to live up to the prospect hype with his bat this season. Horrible defense so far though. Idk, initial thought is Early is an overpay for him.

134 wRc for Mead . That came out of nowhere . Cubs didn’t have a good young bat that compares to that production unfortunately . Early would have been a good fit with the cubs

Yeah, think that's a pretty fair trade. Early is good but think the upside is more "mid-rotation". Mead's upside capped because the glove is "below average" to "bad".

Early would have been a solid off-season target. Not the guy we need for a playoff run this season though.

That's a great deal for the Nats. Mead was a waiver pick up and they turned him into a good upside starter who I wanted. Not to discount the season or prospect status Mead has had but that's a no brainer.

Mead was a top prospect at one time. He struggled a few times when he came up but does have some potential. Nationals dealt him at his peak. Something the Cubs should do with Ayers. Take advantage of an unexpected breakout and get something for him while teams want him.

I would say Shaw is just as valuable and probably more so than Mead. Shaw plays solid defense everywhere you put him and until this little breakout by Mead, was better offensively. Career wise they are very similar, and that is counting this years breakout by Mead. Shaw is also a year younger. Both were top prospects at one point. With Early injured, as well as Shaw, I don’t see this to be something either team would do. Cubs need a pitcher now. But I do think Shaw is more valuable than Mead.

I would hesitate to say Shaw has more value right now if we're talking in the aggregate around the league. Mead has put up 1.5 fWAR this year. He's on a ~3 win pace. His batted ball data suggests this isn't smoke and mirrors with an xwOBA within .10 points of his wOBA. He's running excellent K and walk rates. The glove sucks and the positional versatility is less but Shaw posted a 1.5 fWAR in a full year last year.

I think they're very much on par. You can prefer slightly Mead's bat while knocking his defensive lack of versatility and value, or you can prefer Shaw's versatility and baserunning, but generally speaking they have very similar trade value and on the field value; it's just what your team may prefer but it's probably not more than slight preference.

Well that's a fun way to kick off trade szn

No fair.  I was told that we had to wait for the deadline before we could make a trade.

I'm not sure Detmers is the right guy to trade Rojas for but I'd be listening.

Would the market for Skubal dictate the price tag? If the Tigers decide to hold onto him then you’d think he’d have more suitors and more teams bidding. Maybe not significantly.

Connelly Early is on the IL with left elbow discomfort. Do you think the Cubs should trade for a pitcher who's not throwing right now with elbow discomfort?

There is a reason that the guy who is hurt was traded and the guys who would actually help a contending team aren't being traded yet.

Yep, probably went a little too far with suggesting Shaw has more value. Should have just stuck with equal. Probably more for some teams, less for others, putting him basically equal.

Red Sox were known to be looking for offense , Shaw doesn’t offer the bat that Mead has right now . What do you mean by the little breakout ?  Give Mead his credit . He is sporting a 134 Wrc .  That’s how guys become good players , by breaking out . Some are able to do so , some don’t .

Shaw is basically a  cheap lefty masher with versatilty at this point . My focus on my post was offense . Mead is simply a better and more productive hitter right now . Cubs couldn’t match that .

With that said , I do agree with the poster who replied to me earlier , and said Early really isn’t the pitcher to help them in a playoff run this year .

If the Red Sox thought Shaw would give them the offense they were looking for , a trade would have probably happened in the offseason . I bet the Cubs would have jumped on that deal .

Could have also been the Cubs who didn’t want to trade Shaw for Early. You can’t assume Boston didn’t want him. I mean, the Red Sox eventually traded for Durbin, so they obviously were looking for infield help. I would think if Shaw was offered for Early the Red Sox would have gladly done that deal in the past off season.
But you are correct, Mead is showing more offense. If that is the sole purpose of acquiring a guy and the team doesn’t care about defense, yes, Mead makes the most sense for the Red Sox. Which was your point.
What I am saying is I think the Cubs could get the same sort of deal for Shaw because, IMO, he is basically as valuable as Mead. He just gets his value a little differently. Maybe Shaw for Hancock is a similar deal to the Nats/Red Sox trade?🤷
