We spend years complaining about Jed not spending money on the bullpen and the first guy he spends money on sucks. Maybe he had a point

Never spend on a pen arm that throws 90

Misiorowski capped his night again with 103 on his 93rd pitch. Also threw a 97 slider and a 90 curve. This dude is not fair.

And now taken out of the game. Possible leg injury.

Not diminishing it but that mostly due to the 9 homeruns,  other than that what he done?

He has a 32% K rate

What are you talking about? His numbers are his numbers. No matter how he got them. And they are very good and he is a GG left fielder.

I didn’t say that. If fact, I said if they didn’t extend him I would understand. My issue is your suggesting he hasn’t done much to give the Cubs a reason to sign him. He has been very good for many years. You are now making a different argument then what you originally said and what I took issue with. Once again, you continue to undervalue Happ.

Right, I said he hasn't done much this season to give them a reason to extend him.

What he has done previous years shouldn't matter going forward if you're going to consider extending someone that entering his age 33 year because it more likely his best years are behind him.

Brewers have even turned Misiorowski into a strike-throwing machine. Theyre possibly going to lead the division soon.

Cubs will most likely be out of first place by mid week or sooner at this rate. Doesn’t mean they’ll stay there, but they look like straight horsefeathers right now

Bottom line - Brewers develop pitchers and Cubs do not. That part is very clear. Whoever they hired to work with their pitchers or whatever they’re doing is clear that they know what they’re doing. Cubs could take a page from their book 🤷‍♂️

You're not going to be able to convince a  brick wall to change it's mind

Whatever,  if youre happy with a guy hitting 220s cause hes scattering solo shots here and there then so be it.

Guy is 10 for his last 55 with 2 HRs and 25Ks

He hasn't been very good and doesn't deserve an extension right now as I said in original post

wouldn't be a game thread without someone shitting on ian happ!

Who's shitting on him?  Seems like people are having reasonable conversations about how to improve this ball club and how he fits into future plans as a soon-to-be free agent.

Right..lol

We're talking about next season and extension,  and one person had to come in and defend Happ because I said his play this season hasn't earned him an extension so far. 😅

Who would you replace him with?

Happ should be quite bit cheaper than Seiya.  I would keep Happ, although I'll miss Seiya for sure.

Im putting money on Cubs beating Sales tomorrow,  they were supposed to have a better chance at winning yesterday and today and lose tomorrow based on pitchers facing,  so im betting they knock Sales out of game by the 5th inning 😅😅

Ben will pitch very well, and Maton won't pitch tomorrow.😁

Ian Happ gets very hot and very cold. He is what he is - an above average player. These slumps are to be expected.

I agree,  but so far this season hes been off a bit more,  and hes striking out a whole lot more.

My take on this is:

His next contract will almost certainly be his last opportunity for a major pay day, given his age, so he's probably going to want a 5 year deal like Bregman got this year.  Are the Cubs prepared to make a 5 year/100 to 110 million $ commitment to him?

He will almost certainly get it from someone.  Seems like the Yankees have loved Happ forever and wouldn't surprise me if the Angels and Mets are also interested.  Do the Cubs want to get into a bidding war with other big market teams for Ian Happ on a 4-5 year deal that could run over 100m?

So is he "worth" an extension?  For another team - yes (imo) but for the very unique needs of this team, I personally wouldn't.  They have to buck the status quo somehow and assuming they want to keep Suzuki around, LF is probably the only opportunity to find a true elite hitter.

He’s on pace to double last year’s fWAR and have the best year of his career. He’ll be fine.

So 145 OPS+ and over 800 OPS is playing poorly. Got it. Also, he turns 32 in August. So most of next year he is 32. No, I wouldn’t give him 5 years. Maybe not sign him at all if they put money elsewhere. But you are shitting on him based on his last 55 AB.

The dream for me would be Corbin Carroll, (I acknowledge that it's unrealistic).  But if I'm Jed I'm calling the D-Backs and offering them any 3-4 top prospects they want from the minor league level.  horsefeathers I'd even be willing to move off of a major league piece to get a guy like that - Ben Brown +.
