This trade proposal has really put a fine point on just how many people think Owen Caissie was going to comfortably replace Kyle Tucker

If we had gotten 2.5 fWAR out of Caissie I would have been thrilled.

What if Cabrera is acquired for Caissie or Conrad but Tucker is resigned.

Like the calls for Bichette here, we can dream...

Given Cabrera's elbow is about to explode I'm not that keen on this deal.  Final judgment when the prospects we're sending are announced.

2nd offseason in a row we're sending good prospects away for players because Tom is too cheap to pay for them in FA.  What a joke

Id rather make this deal than sign Cease. Caissie's entire value will come from his bat, just watch.

And every pitchers arm is about to explode.

I still think Jed intends to wait out the top end FA bats to see who'll take a deal.  The money is there, but this team loves to wait FAs out until their market hits bottom.

It's why I think Tucker actually makes a lot of sense, if teams like Toronto and the Mets aren't willing to pony up.

Isnt this guys elbow about to pop?

There are two types of pitchers: (1) those who have had Tommy John surgery; and (2) those who haven't had Tommy John surgery... yet.

Yeah I'd predict below average glove value from Caissie.  He runs like a moose.  Might be a good nickname for him lol

You forgot #3: those who have had Tommy John Surgery, and who will have it again at some point.

Yeah, I'd guess there isn't anything imminent on the FA front. The Cubs don't feel like a team who jumps the market and jumping the Bichette/Tucker/Bregman/Bellinger quagmire doesn't feel like them.

That said, with the game of musical chairs currently, it feels like the team isn't going to sit it out entirely and will make real plays here (I think more on the infielders).

Technically, that falls under #1.

I'm as down on Jed as just about anyone, but given the cap space available, given that the rotation is now full, the bullpen is now full and that Cabrera is cheap, payroll wise, I'd be legit surprised if they aren't adding a significant bat to this line up. The pieces just line up too perfectly and honestly with the current roster any of Bichettte/Bregman/Tucker/Bellinger all could work.

Jesse Rogers:

The Cubs have a new pitcher.....lefty Ryan Rolison was claimed off waivers from the White Sox .

That what taking so long, theyre flipping him to the Marlins 😅😅😅😅

Oh god, this kind of screams Rojas doesn't it? Maybe it's just like Cristian Hernandez, that's totally unrealistic right? Right??

It could be Rojas. That would hurt a bit. Hernandez could fit that mold too. Or even a Southesene type. Hard to tell if this is speculation or reporting as well.

This is why you should chill the hell out. Jed had a vision and understands there are several different avenues to a successfully offseason. Him not blowing his wad on the "top FA" does not mean he doesn't have a quality plan. Jed arguably had the best offseason of all POBO last year and this winter has not been as bad as you've made it out to be. In Jed's eyes, he missed on probably 2 targets so far and theres plenty left to really put the team in a great spot.

The reason Tucker makes sense to me is I can see teams getting spooked with his medicals.  I don't think he's Carlos Corea bad, but his injury history should be enough to give teams pause when it comes to offering him a huge contract, like he'd expect.

He could easily end up take something like a 5 year deal with opt-outs after years 2 and 3, which would be up Jed's alley.

Right now there's smear articles bring written about him saying he doesn't love baseball and that's why teams aren't willing to commit big

Sure but I think if you're gonna control a guy for the next 3 years there's a significant difference between currently healthy guys like those who recently had TJS and won't again for awhile vs those with shredded elbows ready to pop at any moment.

I could see it if his market falls apart, but I have a feeling the Blue Jays like him a lot. Also some rumors the Dodgers could jump in on a short-term AAV thing.

I suspect that the Cubs are more looking at Bregman and Bichette - hopefully the latter. I think if they got Bichette I'd be over the moon. He fits the team fairly well.

A couple related thoughts:

- Mentioned a couple times above, but if Jed wants to be somewhat indifferent between the Tucker/Bregman/Bichette group and wait to see who's market softens a little, a la Bellinger/Chapman/whoever the other 2 were, I'm mostly fine with that. Caveat being that....you need to actually sign the dude.

- Re: Rojas. There's a decent chance in the above scenario that you have Nico/Dansby/Shaw/FA signing for your three infield spots for 2026, and Dansby/Shaw/FA signing for a few years after that. Maybe being the second piece in an Edward Cabrera trade isn't the best use of his value, but assuming Shaw isn't involved and we spend all this money we have lying around, likely might be set for a little while.

Rojas is reminiscent of Gleyber Torres when he was dealt to the Yankees for Chapman.  He's a really fun prospect who's easy to dream on, but far enough down the minors that you pull the trigger if he gets you a substantial upgrade at the major league level.

Jed has always faired pretty well in trades. We always knew this deal was going to start with Caissie. I'm comfortable with that. Caissie, Long, and lower level prospects feels like it gets it done.

Maybe. Or it could be Hernandez or Triantos or some one else

The rotation will be 7 deep when Steele returns. That’s with or without Assad if he’s part of the Cabrera package. Would flipping Taillon be a possibility to free up $ for Tucker and stay comfortably under the LT? He’s a better roster fit than an infielder.
