We've been frustrated at times by Dansby' errors, could be worse, Cubs could have De La Cruz.  For every highlight real throw he makes he tempers those with boneheaded lapses in attention and kicks some easy GB's.  Which he just did a few moments ago, Dansby is always solid.

Just want to point out Dansby has 11 errors. And has way more plays many SS don’t make. It is ridiculous that people can say anything negative about Dansby in the field. Yes, he make a few errors, but hardly something to go off on.

Diamondbacks up 2-0 after 3.

5-2 Padres now. Gonna have to try to do this ourselves. Kind of devastating for Arizona since the Mets lost tonight

Yep. If Padres beat the Dbacks, Az is eliminated. So they have nothing to play for. Basically the same situation the Cubs have. Home team who needs a win against a division rival. Cubs need 1 or 4 games to go their way. It SHOULD happen.

The Cubs offense has a chance to end the season in an oddly neat way:

If Shaw picks it up just a bit these last 2 games, they'll end the season with all 9 players in the lineup effectively being an above average MLB hitter.

Of the regulars on Fangraphs, Swanson’s wRC+ is 99 and Shaw’s wRC+ is 93. Baseball reference is much easier to navigate though. rOBA and Rbat+ are baseball references versions of wOBA and wRC+.but they have Shaw at +100 and Swanson at +107 in their version of wRC+ which deviates a lot from Fangraphs.

Carlos Santana wants that ring.  Gotta think he'll likely be in the dugout during the playoffs even if not rostered.

And, at least for the WC round, I think he will be rostered.

Diamondbacks are officially eliminated.  Plus they aren’t very good.  We are going to need one more win.

Let's get it done today.  Don't want to worry about this horsefeathers during the Bears game

Yeah, I don't think Santana will be rostered. He will likely be on the taxi squad, capable of being placed on the roster if an injury were to occur. I don't think he will be on the actual roster

I wouldn't be surprised to see fewer pitchers on the Wild Card roster, possibly leaving a spot for Santana

This is why I think he will be in the roster. One extra bat in that round.

Do you think they will carry 13 pitchers? I don’t. I think 12 would be the most. So that leaves 5 spots. Back up catcher, Turner, Castro are 3 for sure. Then you have Ballesteros, Hamilton and Santana. Pick 2. I think he is one in the event the Cubs pinch hit Turner for Busch early in a game and then want to go back to a better defender and/or PH for Turner later in that game. But, who knows?🤷 To me it comes down to Santana or Hamilton. Mo has to be in the bench.

They’ve basically already said Santana isn’t making the roster for the WC round. Going to be on the taxi squad.

give me as many pitchers as possible. Zero point in anyone besides the top relievers going back to back and giving their hitters multiple looks.

Yeah

Padres also don't have any LH starting pitching.  So the situation where you might go like Turner->Busch->Santana over the course of a game doesn't exist.  I think the WC bench is backup catcher (probably McGuire), Castro, Turner, and Mo.

They will carry as many arms as possible. This team loves flexibility with pitchers, has consistently ignored the 26th player on the roster under Counsell and in the playoffs the BP becomes even more stressed and used.

I am going to stick to the thought of 12 pitchers. Just rd 1. We shall see how it ends up.

I knew Horton was done, it was false hope to consider otherwise, key is the first game.  Cubs take the first game and they've a very good chance to advance.

Mets are done as well.  No way they're going to win the next two in Miami.  Believe the Reds will manage a split over the weekend.  Ha, ha Mets, goodbye.
