5 run lead is pretty insurmountable for this struggling Mets club

A 5 run lead is the most dangerous lead in baseball.  Yesterday as an example

Ballesteros has to be considered as being the DH next season.

I agree. I think he will be the DH. Wonder what they do spend money on? Or do they play next year with a payroll under $200M?

They better do something really good with Suzuki then.

Still, regardless it would have been better not to send Nico in with  only one out, and Susuki coming up with the bases loaded and one out in that scenario. IMO.

Boyd looking great so far.  No hit and 1 walk in the first 4 innings.  It's good to see him pitching like this.

i hope I'm the first person to make the joke about being surprised Matt Shaw deigned to hit the ball hard to left

Man I'm very happy for all of our sakes that we clinched last week, but the Reds tying their game up in the bottom of the ninth, essentially playing for their playoff lives, is pretty awesome

Unfortunately, I think payroll going down, especially if Tucker doesn't return.

Whether it in offseason, trade deadline, or both, we'll likely see a couple guys traded that on last year of contracts and the prospects that are ready like Caissie and Ballesteros come up.

Maybe it’s not unfortunate. Maybe it’s what should be done.

Why do you think that?

Because there are other teams clearly better on a lot less money.

Using FG, we're at a $220m payroll right now. They have us at $136m for next year for everyone who is signed or guaranteed for next year. Add another $15m for Shota and it's $151m. I'm not sure how they're doing arbitration estimates, but it's basically just Steele and I can't imagine he's going to be much more or different than the $6.5m he's making this year. That covers Swanson/Happ/Suzuki/Hoerner/Kelly/Amaya/Busch/PCA/Shaw on the offensive side, and then Taillon/Boyd/Shota/Steele/Assad/Palencia/Horton on the pitching side. That's 8 offensive starters, a backup catcher, 3.5 starters, a long reliever, and a closer. Call it $30m for the pen. That's still $40m lower than where we are right now, and that's before all this talk about trading one or multiple of the expiring, 8 digit contracts because we have in house replacements ready. What are we spending money on?

The Guardians are about to go 17-2 in their last 19. What a wild year in baseball

There’s been an inordinate amount of cray cray for sure.

I'd be surprised if they don't go after King or Bieber.
