Serious question guys: why does it bother you that Shaw associated with Kirk?

I think it’s cause you want to root for the guys on your team as much as possible. That’s what enhances my engagement, anyway.

I, personally, can’t really cheer for him now, knowing he felt so deeply connected with such human garbage

Bottom of the 9th, down 2.  Shaw hits a 3 run dong to win it.  Cubs advance to the World Series.  What do you do?

I mean like, I didn’t retroactively denounce the 2016 Cubs World Series because Addison Russell turned out to be a POS. I still watch the highlights he was involved with and remember them fondly.  But I can’t deny that his involvement in those plays sours them at least a little and I wish it was someone else that hit those balls and made those plays.

So yeah I’m not going to be pissed off and not enjoy Shaw hitting a pennant winning HR, but I’d probably wish it was someone else who hit it.

That’s fair.  I just don’t think I could not be going bezerk if that happened.

Celebrate my team winning while also wishing someone else hit the home run. I never said I want Shaw to fail. But I can’t help that I’m completely indifferent to his personal success now.

He asked for the time off and got it. So what's the problem?

You guys are actually making Kirk more annoying in death than he was in life.

he wasn't "annoying"

Well good news is Taillon has been strong since returning.  If Boyd doesn't look good in his next start(s) he could get the bump in the first round.

Because it's his job and I guarantee you if I had went to my work and asked for time off because some podcaster that I met once and took a picture with died, they'd (rightly) tell me to fuck off and do my job.

Man its gotta be exhausting to be incapable of separating who the players are off the field from what they do on it..

I wish Matt would have just done his job yesterday rather than go to a Nazi rally but maybe I’m just having trouble separating the two.  It’s embarrassing the Cubs excused to go if that’s what happened.  I have a feeling we are going to find out more on this.

The vibe is off with this team and has been since the “picture”

I just can’t remember ever being less excited about a Cubs playoff team. Maybe they’ll get it together but we’ve been waiting for it since July

That’s what happens when 3 of your top sluggers in the first half are swapped with a pair of replacement level hitters and Kyle Tucker playing at 80% and missing games in the second half. This isn’t a playoff team, it’s a 500 team that inherited a 59-39 team in the first half.

The reinforcements of Taillon and Horton have kept them afloat with their 3.75 runs/game average over their last 48 at 25-23 with a .an openings win % .481.

Charlie Kirk memorial: Cubs infielder misses game to attend service | Fox News

Welp, Fox is lovin' it so I think it's safe to say yes, Shaw was given permission to attend the Kirk service.  It's the Ricketts...

I doubt the Ricketts' permission was an issue for Fox News. If the Cubs for some reason had forbidden it and Shaw had gone Snake Plissken Escape from Cincinnati and battled his way past 4 or 5 armed staffers on the way out to go to the funeral, they'd have loved that too.

Safe to say I won’t be wearing a Shaw jersey EVER! But I do have to seperate his personal life from his life as a ballplayer on the team. And being a Cubs fan, as long as he is on the team I want him to do well. I will say it isn’t easy to root for him, however.

No more exhausting than existing in general in the current landscape.  And him rooting for ****** people is near the bottom of the existential dread I feel on a daily basis.  The concern for the future of my 17 year old daughter and stepdaughter is top of the list and everything Kirk stood for is in opposition to their success in life.

Keep your politics to yourself. Ridiculous! , I can’t root for him because he’s a nazi and got permission from team to attend. Crybaby!

You are part of the problem and don’t even realize it. Your hate is as deep as the one you accuse.

So Shaw + Wiggins + Alcantara + Rojas for Skenes and we don't have to think about this anymore.

Since when has hating Christofascism been a bad thing? The world has been turned upside down and inside out.

Your intolerance of my bigotry is the real problem; isn't an argument that going to fly.
