Damn that pitch wasnt even close and PCA gets punished for actually taking a ball.

That happens a lot with Seiya.

True but to be fair he took a pitch that was completely in the strike zone for a ball earlier in the AB.  He was probably going to strike out regardless unfortunately

Why did Busch not just stay on first there? If the ball wasn’t caught, the runner’s on second so you can’t go anywhere. If the ball got caught, then the runner gets doubled off. You gain nothing by running to second.

Man - I really like the kid, but PCA has become almost an automatic out anymore. The regression since the break has been extremely concerning. 😕

If Hodge is really back, the four guys out of the pen today plus Thielbar and a healthy and effective Soroka in short bursts is a pretty solid backbone suddenly, even without Palencia.

I don't think they'll do it because of his injury history, but Keller could definitely start with his pitch mix.

Agree, and if I recall correctly he used to be a starter for the Royals. Good stuff for sure. Question for you guys about Boyd. I'm re-watching game now upon getting home from work and he's obviously a different guy from before the all star break. I haven't seen his last few starts so what's the issue? Too many innings leading to arm fatigue maybe? If Soroka can return in the near future maybe they can skip Boyd and let him get a blow.

Nice game.  "Chris Morel gets a big hit and the Cubs still win somewhat comfortably" is bordering on best case scenario.

No sure if there is a slight dip in velocity or slight change in pitch shape or what, but I think many expected him to have issues pitching effectively, or even at all - at this point in the season, because as we all know he hasn't pitched anywhere near this much since 2019.

Boyd's getting a lot less chase over the last month or so than he was getting prior.  Pretty much everything else such as velo, contact rate, in-zone rate, first strike rate, etc. is flat.  Hell even his pitch type usage is more or less the same.

My guess is it's a gameplanning thing.  We're now a little over a year into Matt Boyd 2.0, he's probably just gotten a little predictable and needs to change things up.

Cubs now have their most wins since 2019

If they win 1 more game, they'll have their most wins since 2018

If they go 11-4, they'll have their most wins since 2016 (tied with 2018)

Kittredge was awesome again.  Actually, the entire bullpen was.

The bullpen rocked. To go from a 3-0 first inning deficit to a 6-4 win was awesome.

Agreed but you have to have that closer identified and ready to go in the playoffs.

It's great that the Cards are only 4 games back of the wild card going into their Brewers series.  I can't believe that - the Mets have royally sucked lately.

Wow Mets are down 6 in the bottom of the 1st, and deGrom is going for the Rangers.

Odds are at least one of the Giants/Reds win tonight and Mets only have a half game lead on a playoff spot
