When the team is struggling offensively and you are the worst hitter among the starters, if your number one prospect begins to play better than you and the playoff race gets tight, you shouldn’t expect to keep your job. I just don’t see why a .710 OPS corner OF can’t get benched for your #1 prospect if that prospect shows some pop.

Happ is not the worst hitter among the starters in terms of rest of season expectation, Caissie is not playing better than him, and Happ is leaps and bounds better defensively and on the bases.

Happ is your worst starter and has contributed 1 WAR this season. His hitting has only regressed in July and August. Let’s not make him out to be more than he is this year. The Cubs have a roster spot to fill now and I’m ready to give Caissie a few games to see how he does. It also wouldn’t hurt to see what you have in Caissie should the Cubs not sign Tucker.

Can't wait for Caissie to become the board's most despised hitter within the next two weeks.

I expect that Caissie won't take as long to get going as Shaw/Amaya/PCA thanks to his extended time at Iowa.

That said, Busch also spent nearly two full years at AAA, and he had a terrible September callup in '23.  And then in '24 he had a horrific slump in late April/early May before he finally got his feet under him for good.

It's really really really hard for rookie hitters to break in these days.

I like this line-up for tomorrow:

Busch 1B
Castro 2B
Tucker RF
Kelly C
PCA CF
Hoerner SS
Caissie LF
Shaw 3B
Turner DH (hits Scherzer well)

Day off for Dansby, Seiya and Happ

Seiya and Happ always seem like they need extra rest, Caissie gets to play and Dansby hasn't been good against Max.

Also, really feel bad for Amaya and glad it doesn't seem too serious.  Also glad they are calling up Caissie instead of doing something boring like lopez.

Debut against Scherzer is a hell of an ask, even if he's lost some stuff.

Probably right but if he does well against a future HOF it's an immediate confidence boost!

if caissie starts he'll be hitting in the 9 hole.

Really good news on Amaya even if it means his season could effectively be over. So glad it wasn't his knee. It did look at an awful lot like Canario's injury.

I hope they give Caissie some starts. Let him spell Seiya and play a little DH for a bit.

A bit surprised it Caissie, guessing he'll be playing tomorrow with Zuki sitting and will likely get his PT filling in a bit for Happ in LF and maybe mostly for Zuki at DH against RHers.

Hopefully he can get a knock and help put some life back into the offense.

i was expecting Mo to get the call up but not at all surprised. Cassie’s ability to play in the outfield I guess gives him in the edge on a team that needs life injected into a badly slumping outfield. Why not. Lopez is worthless.

If the Cubs valued versatility then what purpose does keeping 3 catches serve? Seems odd they DFAd Berti unless it’s insurance for Amaya’s recent injury history.

Who will Cassie replace and how often will he be in the startylineup?
