They definitely need a better bat off the bench.

I've been all in on Eugenio Suarez for a while now but all of a sudden, Shaw is making me rethink my position

Id love Suarez but the problem with getting him will be the cost of prospects Arizona is likely going to want for a rental .

I'd rather they use some of that asset towards pitching and just get themselves a solid LH bench guy that can play 3B

Would you trade any single prospect not named Owen Caissie for Suarez?

honestly I’m not sure how I’d feel, it would depend on the other moves we made. We’d still need a minimum of 1 starter and pen arm.

As for Shaw, very encouraging and the smart people can tell us how sustainable it is, but the Cubs lineup could definitely use a power hitting right handed batter with 3 of the 4 best power hitters being lefty. If you can get a guy who could hit 50 HRs this year for the middle of the order it’s enticing even if it puts a pause on Shaw’s rise imo.  It makes the Cubs lineup that much more difficult to pitch to when you can mix in another righty power bat

But at the same time I won’t complain if the Cubs like what they see from Shaw and don’t pull the trigger on upgrading 3B. Offense isn’t generally a problem for the Cubs.

I think it's a full-team effort. I don't want to give credit to one person, but when you have a pretty consistent history of fixing and tinkering, it's likely collective more-so than any anecdote. Like I don't doubt a Counsell said something like that, but it was also the team behind the scenes who found a way to help him implement that aspect properly.

The Cubs essentially don't mess with swings until their have struggles. Which also leads me to believe in a collective effort.

I was reading an article where Counsell suggested it to the hitting coaches, but Amaya thought he would lose too much power. Nelson Cruz finally got the message across to him after telling Miguel that he sucked. So yes, full team and non-team effort!

To start no to Wiggins and Rojas. Probably a couple more, too.

For me, I just hope Hoyer can get what they need without trading Caissie, Wiggins, or Rojas.

But like I said if getting Suarez means they dont get a better SP then what they get because of the assets they needed to get Suarez, id ratheruse those assets on the better SP.

All we need is a Dansby hit with RISP to break the game open to let twitter go crazy. Cubs Bingo.

Dansby has actually been really good with bases loaded over the last couple seasons.

He was slashing .467/.412/.533 this year before this at bat. (17 PA)

If the Cubs do get Suarez, I hope either Shaw just moves to the bench or is used to get a real stud SP with control left on his contract

Could be a platoon situation. Shaw can also give Nico a day off or allow Nico to give Dansby a day off

Or if any of the OFers need a day off or god forbid injuries, it opens up Suarez at DH and Shaw at 3B.  You can probably get him 3 starts a week still.

Damn, thought that might be gone.  Either way nice contact off a lefty for Busch.  He seems to keep getting better against them
