I thought it did. What does now?

It doesn’t. Best record and if it is a tie, head to head.

edit: Ok it’s regular season record.

2016 was the last WS that was decided by the ASG for HFA.

Oddly I think it helped the Cubs having game 7 on the road.

I don't mind the pregame festivities as much, but strongly disagree with the selection progress. Christopher Sanchez should 100% be in over Jacob Misioroski. And the Cubs should have more than 3 players in the event. The MVP of the first half shouldn't be batting 9th.

Sanchez wasn't available to pitch in the game. There's apparently (and obviously) a rule that any replacement pick has to be available to play.

It 100% did, and not just because they had Schwarber available to DH.

The camera work for the HR Derby and the NHL skills competitions have been bad to the point that it has turned me off of watching. Who exactly does it appeal to?

all of it is designed for short clips that can be shared on social media. They do not care about the viewing experience, they care about "moments" that can be shared. It's the "Chris Paul hits a 3 to cut the lead down to 42" thing. The generation they're trying to hook as fans aren't tied to particular teams as much as players and they care as much or more about highlights and "moments" as actual results of games

You make a lot of sense here, Rex. Growing older is slowly bringing me to the realization that I am no longer the target audience for the things that I love. Just like my parents weren't when I was younger.

Replacing extra innings with a 3 batter home run derby has been my suggestion over the ghost runner since it became a thing. I remember posting here about it back when they implemented the ghost runner. I was pretty excited to see MLB try it out.

i thought I’d like it more than I did. Meh. At least I got to see Schwarber dominate it.

I enjoyed it last night for an All-Star game but would be totally against it for a regular season game.

I agree.  The swing-off was fun for a once-in-a-decade thing at the All Star game, but it has no place in a regular season game.  Then again, neither does the "ghost runner".

Fun for the ASG but not to decide regular season games.  I prefer the ghost runner over 15 inning marathons

I honestly dislike the ghost runner extra innings things enough that I’d prefer they just bring back ties

I wish the NHL would just have a tie after 5 min OT.

Im not sure how I feel about a tie in MLB, but I sure wouldn't want a HR derby decide. At least the Ghost Runner is still mostly an actual baseball thing, though I am not a fan of that either.

I would rather they have the 3-on-3 go 10 minutes before going to the shootout

Each team gets to load the bases in the 10th. 3 ghost runners!

Then, if it’s still tied after 10, it’s a tie.

Bases are loaded, but there are 2 outs and a 3-2 count

My perfect solution, if we have to change it from “indefinitely long extra innings until someone ends the inning with a lead” is: there’s a 10th inning which has the exact same rules as the 9th inning, and if nobody has taken the lead after 10, it’s a tie.

I liked it for an all star exhibition. I would not like it to end tie games. And if it did, IMO baseball would have to find a way of giving a win in 9 innings more important that a win via a home run derby. I doubt they even do this in the regular season anyway.

Ties sucked. NHL OT rules aren’t perfect, but it beats walking out of a game feeling like nothing was resolved.

I might be in the minority but eff the ghost runner, or any other gimmick, I love a good marathan extra inning game. The longer the better.

Not for the players, especially the pitchers.

I get that game has to change and I've accepted it but some of the new changes (like ghost runners) will always feel like an awkward add to the game.
