Just for fun, the Cubs need to go 39-37 the rest of the season to win 90 games.

Good stat but Brewers gonna win 90+ IMO so....there's that

Can we get a closer that actually shuts the game down without nonsense lol

Show me a closer with a 0.00 ERA for the season. EVER? Or how about a closer with a 0.00 WHIP?

It's baseball. The other team is doing everything they can to score because they to do not want to lose. If Shaw doesn't miss that groundball, this inning is probably uneventful. But, it's baseball. A guy is going to misplay a ball from time to time, even at unfortunate times. Occasionally, it will cost the Cubs a game. Palencia is not without flaws, but I'm quite happy with the results of him basically being thrust into the position due to poor results by the others given that same opportunity.

Really wild that Baez and PCA are going to be ASG starting OFers on opposing teams.

Good for Javy, he had really hit rock bottom, to the point that I think if he did not start producing early this year he was gonna be DFA'd.   Comeback story of the year.

True, I've watched Mason Miller have such struggles on a couple of occasions this season.

Entirely! Another example, we saw Josh Hader twice in Houston (one time for a full inning). He was really dominant in those four batters he faced. But on June 22nd and June 19th, in both appearances he surrendered runs to the Angels (two in this appearance) and the A's in save situations, giving up a combined three hits, and two walks. Hader has been one of the most dominant closers in baseball.

From a Cub-perspective, that's (likely) the last time we see Hader all year. You'd believe, based on those two appearances that Hader has somehow been impervious to nights like Palencia had last night, When...it's a lot closer than what it seems. We just see every outing Palencia has compared to not seeing the June 19th and June 22nd Hader struggles.

I guess I am the only one who read this as if you were trying to be funny. The lol at the end of this response had me thinking you said this sarcastically because of how good Palencia had been until a little nervousness last night. Am I wrong, or did countless poster explaining to you how good Palencia has been and how no closer is perfect 1,2,3 all the time, miss the sarcasm?

Guardians will need a new starter tonight.

They are calling up Joey Cantillo who is, surprise, a LHP.

He seems like a 2-3 inning reliever so I'm not sure if he'll go super long.  I'd keep Busch in there, especially because one of their 2 LHP in the pen threw 3 innings last night and the other 0.2 IP.  Also Busch had a solid line drive hit against a LHP last night.

The game Friday night Hader only faced Happ but Happ hit a laser to center, but it found a glove of course.

Right. But youre missing the point. If all you did was view it from a Cubs lens, Hader faced four hitters, didn't allow a base runner, and the worst outcome was a lineout. He was never in any serious trouble.

Just a few days prior he surrendered runs to bad Angel's and A's teams. But unless youre an Astros, Angel's, or A's fan, you'd probably never know that Hader had outings like Palencia did in the past two weeks.

That sound ominous as hell and the thing that came immediately to mind is that Pirates reliever who was sniffing around those teenage girls

Yeah, whatever *this* is, feels like it's beyond your standard "IDK, this guy on something?" thing.

For everyone potentially involved, I hope it comes out that nothing like that occurred.

My first thought was gambling but maybe it was because I didn't want to think about something more disturbing.

Ah yeah, could be that too! Gambling has become such a weird thing across sports. Only time for baseball to start getting nailed with it again.

Miller has low-key kinda stunk this year, I happened to have the end of an A's game on recently and his numbers are not good at all.

Swanson is an embarrassment with RISP.

Bat the man 8th again.  He did great there.

Does Quentin Barry need to be halfway to home to tell Seiya to keep going?

I think maybe Berry  wanted to direct him if/where to slide?

I don't get these 3b coaches running all over the foul line.  If I'm a baserunner running toward 3b I'd like to know to exactly where the 3b coach will be every single time instead of having to search for him.

PCA definitely didn't know the throw was coming to 3b, maybe he expected it going to home.  Still should slide though.

Not sure Berry is gonna be around next year.

The fact that FanDuel now owns broadcast networks (looking at you Detroit Tigers) is a sleazy conflict of interest. To be more specific:

Potential Conflicts of Interest:
  • Shaping betting behaviors: Broadcasters who have financial ties to sportsbooks may be incentivized to manipulate or mislead viewers to encourage bets that benefit the sportsbook.
  • Compromising game integrity: Critics fear that teams or leagues sponsored by gambling companies might be influenced to act in ways that benefit their sponsors, potentially compromising the fairness of the game.
  • Normalization of gambling: The convergence of sports and gambling normalizes betting, potentially encouraging those who are vulnerable to gambling addiction.
  • Exploitation of vulnerable individuals: Concerns exist that sports betting companies may be targeting vulnerable individuals through their promotions and advertising.

I thought I got your point - Hader is not invincible - right?  I agree.
