Some rumors from Nightengale -

Last two bullets if you can’t see:

• Orioles to make Zach Eflin available; Charlie Morton and Tomoyuki Sugano also expected to be traded barring dramatic winning streak
• Rays listening to offers for Taj Bradley

Bradley is someone I'd love in the offseason but not right now. Zero interest in Eflin or Sugano.

Why not Bradley now? Can’t be the only pitcher they get, but he would be a good pick up. I feel Cubs and Rays are familiar trade partners, so maybe he is an option.

He's a guy I'd want to get in the lab for a bit. I'm not sure how much changing they could do on the fly.

I have no earthly idea how we are not connected to Suarez in every blurb. I know we need pitching but he would be a really impactful.

Nobody thought the Cubs would trade for Paredes . Just saying

I agree that long term he could be very good better than right now. But they can use him now, too.

Dbacks putting their guys on the block is great news

Has that been suggested by their FO?

Based on the second part of your comment, it appears you do know why Suarez isn’t commented on all the time. They need starting pitching much more.  Suarez withdrew be great. But I think they will address pitching first.

Yes, pitching has to be Hoyer number 1 and main priority, even if Shaw sticks and doesn't improve, the rest of the offense is good enough to get 4 runs per game and with solid pitching that should win alot of games.

I read something that Nightendale said they are shopping Kelly / Gallen / Suarez

Dbacks are 6.5 out of the wildcard, Marlins are 8.5, Braves are 9.5. All should be selling

I agree. But that doesn’t mean they will.

Ok, thanks. I didn’t see that. I did read that IF they sold they probably wouldn’t sell both Kelly and Gallen.

Kelly/Suarez would be an absolute dream.  I can't figure out what's wrong with Gallen but part of me thinks it would be like trading for Cole Hamels when he was struggling, so I'd be open to him instead of Kelly.

The only issue is that several teams are interested in upgrading at 3B. Suarez is going to go for more than he should most likely.  I mean if you have a hole at 3B and can get a guy who is on pace for 55 HR, 5 WAR, and plays defense adequately, it seems like a dream acquisition.

The other issue is that the Diamondbacks are said to be looking at young pitching and while we have some, position players are definitely more in supply.  Would we be willing to give up Horton for 2 rentals? Birdsell?

If they get 3 of these 5 it will be a good trade deadline.

Easy no.

That's what I think too but if the DBacks want young pitching as the centerpiece, I have to think one of the teams in contention will be willing to pony up.

The Cubs have some young pitching talent they can trade. But, if another team will give up a Horton type pitching prospect (not too many of those), then they get to make the trade.

Is Joe Ryan an unrealistic option?

Not IMHO....juice isn't worth the squeeze on that one. He'd be a great addition but they'd want the mother load in return. Doubtful on Ryan, but I'd love to be wrong. He's so solid. Apparently the Red Sox have been sniffing around him big time:

Another article I found just confirms what others on this board have said the last 24 hours. The Dbacks WILL be sellers which means Gallen(meh), Kelly (yay!) and Suarez are all on the block:

I think it's good perspective to go back to what the Cubs got back for their guys in '21.  Or what they gave up for Candelario two years ago when he was the top bat on the market.

You can get impact talent a million years from the big leagues, or you can get boring stuff with much better proximity.  But even with the leverage the deadline provides it's still an either/or sort of deal.  Even in a package deal for both guys I still wouldn't be especially worried about having to give up a Horton/Wiggins/Brown.  Wicks/Assad/Birdsell with a strong second piece (as much as I'd hate it, Cristian Hernandez?) is closer to what we're talking IMO.

For the guys that know underlying numbers, is Adrian Houser a guy the Cubs should consider for the right price? He is a guy CC is familiar with. And he has had very good results so far.
